10 Fastest Characters in Marvel Comics Who Could Rival the Flash

The Flash from DC Comics is famous for being the fastest character in comic books, able to move at impossible speeds thanks to the Speed Force. In Marvel, reaching such velocities is incredibly difficult and dangerous – most characters struggle to even reach the speed of light without risking catastrophic damage. However, a handful of Marvel heroes can move much faster than characters like Quicksilver. These speedsters are often cosmic beings who can travel billions of light-years in seconds, letting them protect the universe. They’re the Marvel characters who might actually be able to compete with the Flash in a race.

As a big fan of superhero films, I’ve always noticed that while DC seems to have a ton of incredibly fast characters, Marvel definitely holds its own. They might not have as many speedsters, but they’ve got several heroes who can tap into amazing energy sources and move at unbelievable speeds – it’s really cool to see what they can do!

10) Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock is a powerful cosmic hero created as an ideal being. He’s known for traveling vast distances across the universe incredibly quickly – faster than the speed of light, even. Beyond super-strength, telepathy, and the ability to manipulate souls and perceive the cosmos, Warlock has amazing reflexes, demonstrated by dodging an attack from the Silver Surfer. As a protector of the entire universe, he can reach any location instantly when needed.

9) Nova

Richard Rider, known as Nova, is part of the Nova Corps and wields the powerful Nova Force. Dubbed the “Human Rocket,” he can travel across the galaxy incredibly quickly – potentially trillions of times faster than light! However, he avoids using his full speed on Earth, worried it could accidentally destroy the planet. Despite this, Nova once moved fast enough to rescue the entire population of an alien world in just a few hours while it was being devoured by Galactus. This incredible speed puts him in the same league as speedsters like the Flash.

8) Thor

Thor, the God of Thunder, is incredibly fast – far quicker than lightning. He can use his hammer, Mjolnir, to propel himself through space, easily catching up to spaceships that travel many times the speed of light, and even cross entire galaxies almost instantly. When he can’t use Asgard’s teleportation system, the Bifrost, Thor can still travel between the Nine Realms—each of which is like a whole universe—in just seconds. He’s consistently matched the speed of other incredibly fast heroes like Gladiator, Sentry, and Silver Surfer, proving that Thor is not only one of the strongest Avengers, but also one of the fastest.

7) Ghost Rider

When Johnny Blaze transforms into Ghost Rider and rides his Hell Cycle, few can match his speed. The Hell Cycle, powered by hellfire and the vengeful spirit Zarathos, allows Ghost Rider to easily outrun incredibly fast heroes like Blur, Quicksilver, and Gladiator. He’s even proven faster than Mjolnir, meaning he’s quicker than Thor and far exceeds the speed of light – and that’s just his normal form. If Zarathos fully took control, Ghost Rider’s power and speed would become almost limitless. While his absolute top speed remains unknown, Ghost Rider has consistently demonstrated the ability to pursue anyone, anywhere in the universe.

6) Doctor Strange

Magic allows Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme, to do incredible things that break the rules of nature. While he usually prefers teleporting, he’s also capable of moving at unbelievable speeds. One instance of this was when he needed to return from the edge of the universe after being sent there by Adam Warlock with an Infinity Gem. Doctor Strange cast a spell that brought him back in mere seconds, requiring him to travel several quadrillion times faster than the speed of light! This means, with a little magical effort, Doctor Strange could easily outrun even the Flash.

5) Sentry

The Sentry, Bob Reynolds, is one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes, often compared to Superman. After receiving a special serum, he became incredibly strong and fast, gaining the ability to manipulate reality itself. He’s demonstrated amazing speed and power, like flying from Earth to the Sun in seconds and easily avoiding attacks from Thor. In one battle with Thor, he moved so fast that he actually warped time and space, leaving even the God of Thunder confused. While his maximum speed isn’t known, his reality-warping powers suggest it could be limitless.

4) Silver Surfer

Norrin Radd, better known as the Silver Surfer, is famous for traveling the universe on his surfboard. Powered by the incredible Power Cosmic, he’s unbelievably fast – able to circle the Earth instantly, cross vast distances in seconds, and even reach the universe’s limits quickly. He’s considered one of the fastest beings in existence, consistently faster than characters like Nova and Thor. His speed is so great, it allows him to travel through time. Because his power comes from an endless source of cosmic energy, the Silver Surfer would be a formidable opponent for even the Flash.

3) Makkari

Makkari, who inspired the Roman god Mercury, is incredibly fast – a speed that makes them a key member of the Eternals, an immortal and superpowered group of humans. They can circle the world countless times in just seconds, process information almost instantly, and move at speeds that are hard to even imagine. In fact, Makkari’s speed is so great they even create tachyons, theoretical particles faster than light. This allowed them to briefly match the speed of the Elder of the Universe known as the Runner, though they haven’t been able to repeat that accomplishment.

2) FastForward

Buried Alien, also known as FastForward, was a mysterious runner in the Galactic Marathon who couldn’t remember his past. He initially took the lead during the race, ahead of both Makkari and the Runner, but surprisingly gave up his position to prevent cheating by other competitors. While it’s unknown if he would have ultimately won, FastForward demonstrated incredible speed. Many fans believe he’s actually an alternate version of the Flash, Barry Allen, pointing to his speed, memory loss, and a costume similar to the Flash’s classic yellow and red. After the marathon, FastForward vanished, adding to the intrigue surrounding his identity.

1) The Runner

Gilpetperdon, known as the Runner, is an incredibly ancient being who has spent billions of years mastering unbelievable speed. He draws power from the energy left over from the Big Bang, allowing him to reach what’s called “Absolute Speed.” This means he can move faster than anything imaginable, with no limit to how quickly he can go. The Runner has traveled across the entire universe in the blink of an eye and even holds a cosmic race, the Galactic Marathon, for the fastest beings in existence. In the world of Marvel Comics, he’s unique – his constant, limitless speed makes him the only character who could truly compete with DC Comics’ Flash.
