First-person shooters are usually known for their competitive multiplayer battles. But there’s a lot more variety out there than just that! Some games emphasize humor and over-the-top action, while others create a scary experience by limiting the player’s power. Many even blend in elements from role-playing games. While we’re still discovering what’s coming in 2026, it already looks like a great year for diverse first-person shooter experiences.
Here are just 10 first-person shooters worth keeping an eye on in 2026.
10) Marathon

Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
Release Date: March 2026
The game Marathon faced a difficult launch, made worse by accusations of plagiarism. However, after more development time and resolving the art theft issues, Marathon is now in a stronger position. Arc Raiders is a major competitor, and while it might be challenging to draw players away from Embark Studios’ popular game, it could also offer Bungie valuable insights into creating a successful extraction shooter. With its beautiful visuals and the studio’s talent for precise combat, Marathon has a lot of promise. The developers have already responded to player feedback by adding a solo play option and proximity chat.
9) Halo: Campaign Evolved

Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
Release Date: 2026
While a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved might seem unnecessary, the original game was truly exceptional with its engaging and open-ended combat. This new version gives Halo Studios a chance to return to its roots and regain the trust of longtime fans, especially after a series of disappointing releases. Beyond just replaying the first Halo with updated features like new missions, four-player co-op, and weapons from later games, this remake represents a potential fresh start for the franchise.
8) John Carpenter’sToxic Commando

Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
Release Date: March 12th, 2026
There are plenty of co-op shooters available, and Toxic Commando looks like it could be a good addition to the mix. While shooting zombies isn’t a new idea, this game stands out with its focus on skill, extensive gun customization, a variety of sci-fi weapons, and huge waves of enemies. Plus, legendary director John Carpenter contributed to the story and, crucially, the soundtrack, promising a great synth-heavy musical experience.
7) Warhammer 40K: Boltgun 2

Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
Release Date: 2026
Warhammer 40K: Boltgun was a fun, fast-paced shooter that really made you feel like a powerful Space Marine, thanks to its great sound and satisfying melee combat. But the game became repetitive pretty quickly. Luckily, Boltgun 2 appears to be fixing that by adding a new playable character with a quicker, more agile style. It’s still early, but this is a promising step, and we’ll have to see what other improvements Boltgun 2 brings to the table.
6) High on Life 2

Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
Release Date: February 13th, 2026
The first High on Life was a fun and quirky first-person shooter, so fans will be happy to hear about the sequel. High on Life 2 expands on the original with its chatty weapons and introduces a new skateboard for faster, more dynamic movement – it’s like a sprint that lets you grind and jump. This fresh approach is a great reminder that shooters don’t always need to be serious. Plus, with Justin Roiland no longer involved, the game’s humor has the potential to evolve beyond the repetitive style that became associated with Rick & Morty.
5) Mouse: P.I. For Hire

Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2
Release Date: March 19th, 2026
Mouse: P.I. For Hire immediately grabs your attention. This unique first-person shooter features a charming, old-fashioned animation style – imagine Mickey Mouse as a mobster with a Tommy gun! Along with its distinctive look and quirky weapons, the game lets you explore and solve mysteries, truly living up to its detective theme. It easily could have relied solely on its beautiful art style, but thankfully, it offers a surprisingly deep and engaging experience.
4) Industria 2

Platforms: PC
Release Date: “Soon”
Industria 2 is a first-person shooter with horror elements. Players explore a strange dimension, scavenging for resources and crafting items to survive against terrifying creatures. It shares similarities with games like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, particularly in its focus on preparation before combat, and features a device reminiscent of the motion tracker from Aliens. While drawing inspiration from these classic titles, hopefully Industria 2 will establish its own unique identity.
3) No Law

Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
Release Date: “Soon”
Wow, No Law really grabbed my attention at The Game Awards! It’s a cyberpunk FPS, and yeah, there’s plenty of fast-paced shooting action, but it looks like there’s a lot more to it than just running and gunning. From what I saw, it seems like you can really customize your character and even play stealthily – almost like an immersive sim. Apparently, your choices actually matter and can change the story, which is awesome! Honestly, it looks like Neon Giant is really pushing themselves with this one, and I’m super excited to see where they take it.
2) Crisol: Theater of Idols

Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
Release Date: Early 2026
Crisol: Theater of Idols is a unique first-person shooter. Set in the fictional country of Hispania, inspired by Spain, it blends horror with religious imagery. Players actually use their own blood to power their weapons, which is disturbing, but less so than the grotesque, angelic enemies you’ll face. The game is visually striking, and hopefully, it will also offer a compelling experience beyond its style.
1) Witchfire

Platforms: PC
Release Date: 2026
Although Witchfire has been available in early access for a while, the full 1.0 version is coming in 2026, which should attract even more players. This roguelite shooter, blending elements of *Soulslike games, has steadily improved thanks to consistent updates from the developers. It already features excellent shooting and a striking art style, but the real depth comes from its roguelite and RPG features, allowing players to customize their character’s progression. The game has clearly benefited from player feedback during early access and looks set to become one of the best shooters of the year.
