10 Marvel Heroes the X-Men Can’t Stand

The X-Men stand out as Marvel’s most impactful team because their struggles go beyond typical superhero battles. They’ve consistently fought for the rights of mutants, opposing prejudice and injustice for decades. Unlike teams like the Avengers and Fantastic Four, who generally support the existing order, the X-Men challenge it, fighting against those who would oppress mutantkind. While other heroes focus on global threats, many overlook the discrimination faced by mutants – a problem the X-Men refuse to ignore. This difference in priorities has often led to conflict between the X-Men and their fellow heroes.

It’s no secret that Marvel heroes often clash, and the X-Men are especially prone to disagreements with others. There are several heroes the X-Men simply can’t stand, and working with them is always difficult – they just don’t mix well.

10) Professor X

Charles Xavier, the founder of the X-Men, has had a falling out with the team in recent years. Professor X has become more focused on results and, at times, acted like a villain, leaving his former students frustrated and distrustful of his schemes. Many team members, especially those loyal to Cyclops, no longer have the faith they once had in the man they used to admire and protect.

9) USAgent

When Steve Rogers clashed with the US government, USAgent took his place as Captain America. Unlike Rogers, John Walker is a soldier who always follows orders without question, firmly believing the government is never wrong. This makes him a difficult figure for the X-Men, who generally distrust authority. If instructed, he’d aggressively pursue mutants, and the team has no respect for him – nor any desire to collaborate. Their limited interactions have all been negative.

8) Punisher

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve always found The Punisher to be a fascinating, but seriously lone wolf character. Let’s be real, most heroes just can’t stand him! He’s a killer, and while some are more okay with lethal force than others, his obsession with punishment rubs almost everyone the wrong way. Even the X-Men, who are generally more tolerant, haven’t had a great relationship with him. He mostly interacts with Wolverine, and those two have a long history of fighting! Honestly, most of the X-Men would probably rather punch him than work with him, thanks to all those battles with Wolvie.

7) The Avengers

The Avengers are Marvel’s most famous team, but their relationship with the X-Men has often been strained. They’ve clashed many times in the past, and even though things are currently peaceful, there’s still a lot of lingering distrust. The Avengers generally prefer to maintain the existing order, and have sometimes sided with those who oppose mutants. While they’ve saved the world countless times, they often overlook the struggles of mutants, even when they could intervene. Though some X-Men have briefly joined the Avengers, this hasn’t erased the fundamental tension between the two groups.

6) Namor

Namor used to be an X-Man, but he wasn’t exactly a team player. The Atlantean mutant has a reputation for being difficult and often clashed with other heroes. While his strength was valuable, his disrespectful behavior towards his teammates made it unpleasant to work with him. Things got even worse when he tried to pursue Emma Frost, who was already with Cyclops, solidifying his status as someone the team preferred to avoid.

5) Mister Fantastic

Mister Fantastic is incredibly intelligent, arguably the smartest hero around, but he doesn’t always connect with people on a personal level, particularly those outside his immediate family. Reed Richards believes every problem can be fixed, and he dedicates himself to finding solutions. He even attempted to “solve” the issue of mutants by developing a way to remove their powers, which has created a very strained relationship between him and the X-Men, effectively making him unwelcome among them.

4) Hulk

The Hulk, similar to the Punisher, is a hero that other heroes often struggle with. While he’s caused a lot of destruction, he’s also helped heroes out on occasion. This isn’t true for the X-Men, though. Almost every encounter they’ve had with the Hulk has been because he was actively attacking them, often targeting Wolverine specifically. He’s consistently been a problem for the X-Men, and they generally avoid working with him.

3) Deadpool

Although Deadpool fights alongside the X-Men, they find him incredibly irritating. Like most heroes, they struggle with his constant chatter, cheesy jokes, and generally frustrating personality. Despite his loyalty and repeated attempts to officially join teams like X-Force, the X-Men tend to keep him at a distance – they just don’t want to deal with the hassle.

2) Spider-Man

Spider-Man is often seen as Marvel’s most down-to-earth hero, but he’s also known for being a bit irritating to other heroes. Similar to Deadpool, Peter Parker can be a nuisance. While he’s improved over time and become friends with Wolverine, earning some acceptance from the X-Men, most still prefer to avoid him long-term. They’ll work with him when necessary and even allowed him to teach at the Jean Grey School, but they don’t particularly enjoy his company.

1) Scarlet Witch

The House of M event nearly wiped out all mutants, and Scarlet Witch was responsible. She removed the powers of almost the entire mutant population – an act of genocide – which nearly allowed their enemies to destroy them completely. For years, Scarlet Witch claimed innocence, and the Avengers supported her, which ultimately contributed to the Earth being destroyed by the Apocalypse Twins due to internal conflict within the Avengers Unity Squad. While she has since tried to make amends by working with Hope Summers to restore mutant powers using the Phoenix Force and creating a haven for mutant souls, many mutants still don’t trust her, and the X-Men generally avoid her.
