Following up on the popular anime *Dragon Ball Z*, *Dragon Ball Super* quickly became a hit when it premiered in 2015. Originally broadcast on Fuji TV, you can now watch it on Crunchyroll. The story begins after the defeat of Majin Buu and a period of peace, and it features exciting new challenges for Goku and his friends. It explores the powerful bond between Earthlings and Saiyans as they face incredibly strong, never-before-seen enemies.
I’m a huge fan of this show! It’s been incredible watching Frieza try to take down all our favorite heroes from Universe 7, and the ‘Battle of Gods’ arc was just mind-blowing – seeing Beerus awaken that Super Saiyan God prophecy with Goku was epic. What really gets me is how much the show focuses on training and pushing limits – watching Gohan and even Hit grow stronger is so inspiring. And it’s not just Goku! Seeing Vegeta constantly strive to improve is fantastic. Plus, the introduction of Zeno and Android 17 becoming a true ally, especially when facing threats like fused Zamasu and Jiren, has been a wild ride!
Here’s a ranking of the 10 most popular characters in *Dragon Ball Super*, according to fans!
10) Broly
Broly is a powerful and intimidating character in *Dragon Ball Super*, driven by a heartbreaking history. As an infant, he was stabbed due to his incredibly high natural power level of 10,000. Fearing his potential, King Vegeta, the last Saiyan king, banished Broly to the harsh planet Vampa when he was young. While struggling to understand his abilities on Vampa, Broly is eventually found by Frieza’s forces.
Frieza summons Broly and his father, Paragus, to his court, where Paragus confidently boasts about Broly’s strength. This leads Frieza to train Broly, preparing him to battle Goku and Vegeta. When Broly arrives on Earth, his immense power is unleashed, and he transforms into a uniquely strong and ferocious form fueled by his anger. What makes Broly especially dangerous, however, is his quick ability to learn and improve during a fight.
I watched as Broly, during his battle with Goku and Vegeta, unlocked this incredible, legendary Super Saiyan form. It was like his burning desire for revenge exploded into this massive, green power surrounding him. But something really surprising happened as the fight went on. He eventually accepted his defeat, and instead of remaining an enemy, he actually found peace and became an ally to Earth. Honestly, seeing that change – from a bitter outcast to a warrior who found healing – was unlike anything I’d seen in the whole series. It showed a real inner strength.
9) Android 17
Android 17 makes a surprising return in this series, now working as a park ranger with a family and even greater power than before. He’s no longer under Dr. Gero’s control and instead joins Goku as an ally, fighting alongside Earth’s team in the Tournament of Power. There, he protects Universe 7 using his strong defensive skills and powerful energy attacks.
Android 17 is a remarkably durable and fast fighter who doesn’t tire, and he has an incredible ability to read his opponents’ next moves. These skills make him a crucial member of Universe 7’s team. He consistently outlasts strong opponents, including Piccolo, and ultimately helps Goku and Frieza defeat Jiren, the powerful warrior from Universe 11.
8) Hit
Hit is considered one of the strongest characters in *Dragon Ball Super*, ranking eighth. He’s a famous assassin with a legendary reputation, said to be a thousand years old. Beyond his intimidating look, including glowing red eyes that can sense everything, Hit is incredibly powerful. He’s the only one who can manipulate time, making him a very dangerous opponent.
Honestly, Hit is just incredible to watch! He’s not just strong, he *fights* smart. He uses these amazing techniques like energy clones to totally throw opponents off, and his Time-Skip? Forget about it – it’s a game changer! I remember being on the edge of my seat during the Tournament of Power watching him. He actually *stopped* Goku’s heart with a time freeze! And Vegeta? Hit completely outmaneuvered him, dodging everything with these incredible dimensional holes he creates. It’s not just brute force with this guy, it’s pure skill and strategy.
7) Vegito
Vegito is a powerful warrior created when Goku and Vegeta fuse together using the Potara earrings. They initially fused to defeat Super Buu and prevent him from absorbing their friends and allies. Vegito combines Goku’s incredible power with Vegeta’s fighting skill, and is capable of using extremely powerful attacks, such as the Banshee Blast, which is even stronger than Vegeta’s Big Bang Attack.
Vegito is an incredibly fast and powerful fighter with a limited time frame. He can launch energy blasts and even erase opponents from existence with his Hakai ability. One of his signature moves is the Final Kamehameha, a powerful double blast of blue energy. During his fight with fused Zamasu in *Dragon Ball Super*, Vegito transformed into Super Saiyan Blue and shocked a Supreme Kai with his Spirit Stab, a move that finally ended Zamasu’s immortality.
6) Zeno
Grand Zeno appears in *Dragon Ball Super* as the protector of all the universes. The show doesn’t reveal who created him, leading many fans to believe he’s existed since the very beginning. As the Omni-King, Zeno has complete control over everything, and can take away anyone’s power at will.
Zeno, the supreme ruler, possesses the incredible ability to completely erase anything – universes or beings – with a single move. We see this power demonstrated in the show when he effortlessly destroys universes and timelines to eliminate threats like Zamasu. Furthermore, Zeno can bypass immortality, meaning he’s the only one who can truly defeat immortal beings within the entire series.
5) Gohan
Gohan, Goku’s oldest son, possesses a special power that rivals his father’s. As a half-Saiyan, half-human, he’s incredibly fast and has access to God Ki, which he honed through training with Piccolo, the warrior son of a demon king. Gohan can even transform into Gohan Beast, a powerful form that some believe exceeds his father’s Ultra Instinct. Fans first see this transformation in *Dragon Ball Super* when Gohan uses it to save Piccolo from Cell Max.
Gohan started as a young boy who hadn’t fully developed his natural abilities because he focused more on school than training. However, he grew significantly after dedicating himself to practice. This was especially clear when he transformed into a Super Saiyan during his intense fight with Lavender, proving his willingness to protect Universe 7 and leading them through the Tournament of Power.
4) Lord Beerus
In *Dragon Ball Super*, Beerus is the God of Destruction for Universe 7, a role he’s held for a million years after being chosen by the previous God of Destruction, Zeno Sama. Looking like a cat, this powerful divine being can obliterate universes and planets with his special technique, Hakai, and also controls ancient God Ki energy. Beerus’ main job is to keep the universes in balance by destroying those that aren’t showing potential for growth and new, strong planets.
Beerus is always with his attendant and teacher, Whis, who helped him master his incredible power and fighting skills. He’s known for both powerful attacks that destroy planets and surprisingly simple ones, like obliterating worlds with a sneeze. His immense strength is evident throughout the series, notably when he pushes Goku and Vegeta to combine their power as Vegito to defeat the fused Zamasu.
3) Whis
Whis is a powerful angel and the son of the Grand Advisor to Zeno. He serves as the personal assistant and trainer to Beerus, the God of Destruction, and is even stronger – possessing twice Beerus’ power. A master of techniques like Ultra Instinct and highly skilled in martial arts, Whis doesn’t just train gods; he plays a vital role in keeping balance across the universes.
Whis is incredibly powerful because he can control time using his natural instincts. He also has a unique ability granted by his staff: he can see everything happening in any dimension or realm. Beyond that, Whis can travel between dimensions with his staff, and even rewind time to prevent disasters with a power called Temporal Do Over.
2) Vegeta
Vegeta is a hugely popular character in the *Dragon Ball* series, largely because he’s descended from King Vegeta, the last ruler of the Saiyan people. His incredible power comes from surviving the destruction of his home planet and the tyranny of Frieza. He’s exceptionally strong, able to harness the power of God Ki and transform into Ultra Ego, a state where his pride fuels his abilities and allows him to automatically counter his opponents’ attacks.
Vegeta, trained by the incredibly powerful Beerus and his angel, Whis, is driven to surpass his rival, Goku. Throughout *Dragon Ball Super*, he’s constantly pushing his limits, perfecting his spirit control and fighting skills in preparation for the Tournament of Power. Once a bitter enemy, Vegeta has become one of Goku’s strongest allies, and his ability to fuse with Goku as Vegito proved to be a pivotal moment in their story.
1) Goku
Goku is still the central figure in the series, constantly striving to protect his friends and the fate of Universe 7. Sent to Earth as a baby from the destroyed Planet Vegeta to preserve his people, he was raised by his adoptive grandfather, Grandpa Gohan, who began his training from a very young age, eventually shaping him into Earth’s powerful defender.
This next installment features Goku battling both a God of Destruction and Frieza, utilizing his Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue transformations. He’s become skilled in techniques like God Ki and Ultra Instinct – abilities showcased in his fight with Fused Zamasu that give him incredibly fast reflexes. Through intense training with masters like King Kai and Whis, combined with his natural strength, Goku has become a warrior so powerful that even Beerus, a God of Destruction, acknowledges his superiority.
