10 Most Powerful Jujutsu Kaisen Sorcerers

I’m absolutely smitten with “Jujutsu Kaisen,” one of the standout manga series from the past decade. Among hardcore anime enthusiasts, it’s informally dubbed as part of the “Dark Shounen Trio” alongside other fan favorites like “Chainsaw Man” and “Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku.” What truly skyrocketed its popularity were its distinct character introductions, captivating power dynamics, and thrilling fight sequences. The story revolves around me, a teenager named Yuji Itadori, who unknowingly swallows the cursed finger of an ancient sorcerer and is thrust into the world of jujutsu, a society dedicated to safeguarding humanity from hidden curses.

Exploring themes of personal growth and bonding within a chilling backdrop of sorcerers sacrificing themselves for a higher cause, Jujutsu Kaisen has carved out a unique niche in contemporary anime/manga. The manga concluded in September 2024, leaving room for additional seasons of the animated adaptation. To celebrate the series, we’re examining the characters designed by Gege Akutami and determining which ones might be stronger than their counterparts.

1) Ryomen Sukuna

In order to make this list truly comprehensive, it’s crucial to mention Ryomen Sukuna, the main antagonist from Jujutsu Kaisen. A sorcerer in human form who lived a millennium ago, Sukuna was infamously known as The Disgraced One by the jujutsu community due to his atrocious actions. With four arms at his peak, he could metamorphose himself into a curse, ensuring his survival even after death, by fragmenting his soul within his fingers (twenty in total). Eventually, he’s reborn when Yuji Itadori swallows one of the cursed fingers, making him Sukuna’s living host.

In the anime “Jujutsu Kaisen,” Sukuna is infamously known as the “King of Curses.” He looms as a constant danger over the storyline. The primary plot revolves around Yuji consuming all twenty fingers of Sukuna, followed by his execution, to prevent Sukuna from fully returning to the contemporary world. The early portrayals of Sukuna set the stage for the rumors about his power; his domain expansion, Malevolent Shrine, doesn’t have a boundary that limits his attack reach. Sukuna’s built-in ability, Shrine, enables him to unleash multiple slashing and flaming assaults on his adversaries, making it extremely difficult for even the top sorcerers to evade completely.

2) Satoru Gojo

Satoru Gojo is a highly renowned anime character from the past ten years, easily identifiable even to those who only casually watch anime. Many within the jujutsu community view him as the strongest sorcerer, tackling curses and curse users that even other Special Grades may find difficult to vanquish. His clan abilities, Limitless and Six Eyes, are both in Gojo’s possession, granting him the respected title of The Honored One (a self-bestowed title, but one that carries significant importance within the narrative).

As a devoted fan, I’d put it this way: With my unique abilities, I, Gojo, bend space to my will, harnessing an infinite potential. Among these techniques, Hollow Purple stands out – a colossal void that obliterates anything in its wake. My Six Eyes, the source of my intricate eye movements, allow me to manage cursed energy and perceive things beyond the ordinary. Lastly, Infinite Void, my renowned domain expansion, leaves opponents frozen by overwhelming them with an endless flood of information. To top it off, I can create a comprehensive defense shield, float effortlessly, and teleport at will. Earning my spot on this list of outstanding characters is no small feat!

3) Yuta Okkotsu

In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuta Okkotsu stands out as a character brimming with untapped power. His debut is in the prequel arc, “Jujutsu Kaisen 0,” which revolves around the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons. At this stage, Yuta is a young man who carries an extremely potent curse – Rika, the twisted spirit of his deceased friend. As the story unfolds, it’s revealed that Rika wields immense power due to the vast reservoir of cursed energy within Yuta. Following his triumph over Suguru Geto and Rika’s liberation, Yuta is dispatched for training under Gojo, setting the stage for the main narrative.

It’s been mentioned that Yuta is a powerful relative of Gojo, and this is evident in his abilities. Yuta can be classified as a Special Grade Sorcerer, as he harnesses an immense amount of cursed energy and channels it through the sword he fights with. His skill, Copy, enables him to absorb portions of other sorcerers via Rika, and then accurately deploy their techniques. This grants Yuta a significant edge in combat, though he must sometimes materialize Rika to effectively summon the abilities he’s acquired.

4) Kenjaku

In the anime “Jujutsu Kaisen”, if Sukuna takes the role as the primary antagonist, then it seems logical that Kenjaku would rank second, serving as the mastermind behind many of the events in the storyline. Kenjaku is a character who frequently stays several steps ahead, orchestrating outcomes for his own entertainment and fascination. This is partially due to his immense age, as he’s been alive for over a thousand years, much like the reincarnated sorcerers we encounter throughout the series.

What sets Kenjaku apart as both powerful and deceitful is his unique ability known as his cursed technique. This skill allows Kenjaku to transfer his consciousness into other sorcerers’ bodies, effectively taking control. By doing so, he can utilize the new body’s inherent abilities. For instance, we observed this when he assumed control of Suguru Geto’s body following Geto’s death after his rebellion. Like Yuta, Kenjaku’s capacity to replicate techniques offers him a wide range of combat options; however, it’s his strategic mind that gives him an advantage over most sorcerers on this list.

5) Suguru Geto

In the captivating world of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” I find myself utterly intrigued by the enigmatic figure that is Suguru Geto. His defection from the jujutsu society has sparked countless debates among fans, with opinions ranging from admiration to outright loathing. Yet, regardless of personal feelings, there’s no denying his immense power as a sorcerer. He was once a peer to the seemingly invincible Gojo himself!

Geto’s tale takes an ominous turn, as he develops a deep-seated hatred for humanity, unleashing curses upon Kyoto and Shinjuku. His final standoff against Yuta was nothing short of epic, culminating in his defeat. As one of the rare Special Grades in Japan, Geto towers above many other characters we encounter in “Jujutsu Kaisen,” demonstrating a power level that is truly awe-inspiring.

Geto’s infamous skill is known as Cursed Spirit Control, a scarcely found talent that has drawn Kenjaku’s attention. Using this ability, Suguru can transform cursed spirits into orbs he consumes, taking in their curses to summon and manage them whenever he desires. The number of spirits Suguru can command simultaneously is uncertain, allowing him to maintain control over multiple potent curses at the same time. However, this skill comes at a cost: it has left a deep psychological impact on Suguru Geto, causing him to dislike the taste of curses and ingest some of humanity’s most vile entities.

6) Yuki Tsukumo

One character in the anime “Jujutsu Kaisen” that is not given enough screen time is Yuki Tsukumo. Yuki is a powerful Special Grade sorcerer, one of the few in Japan capable of vanquishing the most formidable curses mankind faces. Unlike many others, she’s not associated with Jujutsu Tech, choosing to stand apart from those she considers corrupt authorities. Her distrust stems partly from her past as a Star Plasma vessel for Tengen, a position she rejected. Now, Yuki journeys across the globe, working towards a personal mission: ridding humanity of its reliance on cursed energy.

It’s interesting to note that most of what we know about Yuki’s fighting style comes directly from her, since those in charge aren’t privy to many details about her skills. Yuki’s cursed technique, Star Rage, enables her to increase and mold the mass of both herself and her spirit, making her attacks more devastating without compromising her agility or speed. In fact, during one battle, we witness Yuki transforming into something akin to a black hole to counteract Kenjaku, demonstrating her remarkable combat abilities on the field.

7) Hajime Kashimo

I, an onlooker, am quite exhilarated about the prospect of witnessing Hajime Kashimo grace the big screen. In the manga, we encounter him during the “Culling Games” arc. Hajime Kashimo is immersed within Kenjaku’s Culling Games, a fierce tournament that resembles a battle royale, where jujutsu sorcerers engage in combat against one another. Interestingly, Hajime Kashimo is the reborn form of a sorcerer who lived four centuries ago, willingly participating in future Culling Games to have the opportunity to confront Sukuna. This is due to the fact that throughout much of his past, Kashimo excelled in combat against fellow sorcerers until he felt disillusioned and yearned for a worthy adversary in battle.

In line with my anticipation, Kashimo takes great pride in his strength over weakness, a trait exemplified by his cursed technique known as Mystical Beast Amber. This skill empowers him to infuse his being with cursed energy, acting as a vessel for electricity. As such, he has earned the revered title of “The God of Lightning”. Through his proficiency, he can produce bolts of lightning, vaporize adversaries, and discharge electrical pulses. However, the cost of this formidable control is steep: he can unleash this ability only once during each summon, as it exacts a heavy toll on his physical constitution.

8) Aoi Todo

Aoi Todo, often beloved by fans as a key figure in Yuji’s adventures, has proven himself worthy among the top sorcerers due to his combat prowess. At first, Todo was portrayed comically, but soon reveals a deeper side when partnering with Yuji for the first time in a fierce, full-scale battle against encroaching curses. Having been tutored by Yuki during his youth, Todo now attends the Kyoto branch of Jujutsu Tech as a third-year student.

In the thrilling world of Jujutsu Kaisen, I, Todo, am known for my unique Boogie Woogie technique! With a swift clap of my hands, I can switch the placements of two subjects, utilizing an eerie energy that’s as cursed as it is versatile. This skill comes in handy for both defensive and offensive maneuvers, helping me extricate my teammates from tight spots and evade incoming attacks with grace.

Moreover, thanks to Yuki’s tutelage, I have mastered the art of Simple Domain – a powerful ability that allows me to nullify expansions of other domains. This skill has proven invaluable during numerous critical battles throughout the series, even enabling me to confront high-level curses on my own!

9) Yuji Itadori

In the anime “Jujutsu Kaisen”, Yuji Itadori is the main character who initially had less proficiency in cursed techniques because he entered the realm of sorcery without any prior training or background knowledge. However, through rigorous tutelage from Gojo, his abilities are honed and developed to prepare him for exorcising curses and containing Sukuna. As the story unfolds, we witness Yuji’s remarkable progression, making us realize why Gojo foresaw that one day, his pupil might even surpass him.

To start with, Yuji stands out due to his exceptional physical strength, boasting a resilience and speed that surpasses his peers, even before tapping into his energy reserves. He’s skilled in manipulating a technique called Divergent Fist, which is a two-strike move that taught him to manage and discharge his energy during training. Later on, he learns to use Blood Manipulation and Shrine as fighting techniques, with the latter being acquired from Sukuna dwelling within him for an extended period. However, his usage of these newer skills is still developing compared to his other abilities. Lastly, it’s important to mention the unnamed domain expansions that Yuji developed in the final chapters against Sukuna, targeting his enemy’s soul directly to secure victory.

10) Hiromi Higuruma

In this list, it’s worth noting that Hiromi Higuruma, who makes an appearance during the “Culling Games” arc, is somewhat contentious but may have earned his place due to the intriguing potential of his character within the series. Prior to joining Kenjaku’s tournament, Higuruma was a defense attorney disheartened by the injustices of the system. A tipping point came during a trial when he lost faith in justice and, for the first time, activated his cursed technique, leaving behind his old life and beliefs. Among all the sorcerers, Kenjaku expressed genuine admiration for Higuruma, taking an interest in observing him.

The idea for Higuruma’s cursed skill stems from his former profession as a lawyer. His move, Deadly Sentencing, and domain are connected – the domain creates a simulated courtroom setting, while his technique initiates a trial where a guilty verdict drains the trapped individual of their cursed power. Shortly after awakening his energy and becoming a sorcerer, Higuruma mastered energy manipulation by studying his skill, quickly advancing to Grade 1 level. In the Culling Games, he’s one of the few modern sorcerers who has accumulated a high score by eliminating opponents.

As a devoted fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I couldn’t help but notice that list. However, being a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but share my own thoughts on the strongest jujutsu sorcerers in this captivating series! Who are your top picks? Let’s discuss and compare our favorites!
