2025 was a fantastic year for anime, bringing back popular series like Solo Leveling and Dandadan, and introducing exciting new shows such as Gachiakuta and Witch Watch. As the Fall 2025 season wraps up, all the year’s anime series and films have now premiered. Like every year, fans enjoyed a mix of returning favorites and fresh content, each with its own appeal. While shows like Spy x Family Season 3 and My Hero Academia: Final Season grabbed headlines, many promising new series also debuted throughout the year.
Every year, many new shows come out, and unfortunately, some good ones get overlooked. Others, like May I Ask For One Final Thing?, are starting to gain recognition but still deserve more attention. The anime series listed below range from relatively unknown to having a small but dedicated following. However, they all premiered this year and are definitely worth checking out.
10) Pass the Monster Meat, Milady!

Melphiera Marchalrayd is a noblewoman with an unusual passion: cooking with monster meat. Though considered strange by her kingdom’s elite – who only see the monsters as dangerous and poisonous – Melphiera believes these creatures can be incredibly delicious when prepared correctly. She’s determined to prove this and change people’s minds through her exquisite cooking. However, her hobby makes it difficult to find a husband, much to her family’s disappointment. At a social event, feeling discouraged, she unexpectedly meets Aristide Rogier du Galbraith, a talented warrior who could be the partner she’s been waiting for.
9) Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective

The series follows Dr. Takao Ameku, a gifted but unusual pathologist who leads a special department at Tenikai General Hospital. Her team tackles incredibly difficult medical cases, and Dr. Ameku frequently investigates strange deaths and murders, often with the help of her assistant, Yu Takanashi. Despite being a compelling story, the show hasn’t been picked up for another season yet.
8) Medalist

The popular manga Medalist is getting a second season, scheduled to premiere in January 2026. The story centers on Tsukasa Akeuraji, a figure skater who started his career a little late and is now struggling to succeed. After giving up on his own dreams, he becomes an assistant coach and is inspired by the incredible talent of a young fifth-grader named Inori Yuitsuka. He decides to devote himself to training her, hoping to help her reach her full potential and eventually become an Olympic medalist.
7) Anne Shirley

This story is based on the beloved novel about Anne Shirley, an eleven-year-old orphan who has never found a permanent home. Her life takes a turn when she’s taken in by a brother and sister at Green Gables, a peaceful farm in a small town. The adaptation follows Anne as she adjusts to her new life, experiences many firsts – like going to school and making friends – and learns to navigate the ups and downs of growing up.
6) Sanda

Paru Itagaki, known for Beastars, recently released an anime adaptation of her action-packed mystery series this fall. The story takes place in a near-future Japan facing a severe population crisis due to extremely low birth rates – less than 0.1% of the population is under 15. As a result, children are carefully raised and sheltered in boarding schools. Everything changes for 14-year-old Kazushige Sanda when his classmate, Shiori Fuyumura, discovers he’s a descendant of Santa Claus. Disheartened by the state of his country, Kazushige decides he wants to grow up and become Santa Claus to fight for the children and challenge the adults.
5) Lost in Starlight

Despite being a groundbreaking film as the first Korean animated movie released worldwide, Lost in Starlight didn’t receive much recognition, even though it’s a visually stunning sci-fi adventure. Set in 2050, the film combines old and new styles to create a distinctive look, beautifully complemented by its calming music. The story follows Nan-young, a young scientist hoping to lead a mission to Mars, but is put on hold. While taking a break in Seoul, she meets Jay, a musician who gave up on his dreams and now fixes old stereos. They inspire each other to pursue what they love and develop feelings for each other, knowing their time together might be limited.
4) Yano-kun’s Ordinary Days

Everyone loves a good romantic comedy, and Yano-kun’s Ordinary Days could be exactly what you need for a cozy night in. The story follows Kiyoko Yoshida, a class president who first notices Tsuyoshi Yano when he shows up to school covered in bruises. She tries to help him, even secretly following him because she’s worried, but quickly realizes he’s just incredibly clumsy and keeps getting into accidents. From then on, Kiyoko dedicates herself to keeping him safe, always carrying a first-aid kit just in case.
3) Cleveatess

This exciting fantasy anime immediately grabs your attention with its creative world and beautiful animation. The story centers around Clevatess, a formidable demon lord who wreaks havoc after being opposed by thirteen human heroes. Surprisingly, he brings one of those heroes, Alicia Glenfall, back to life and tasks her with raising an infant named Luna, whose future decisions will determine the fate of humanity. The anime then follows the unusual partnership between the demon lord and the resurrected hero as they unexpectedly become caregivers.
2) Apocalypse Hotel

This excellent sci-fi anime is a bit of a hidden treasure. It takes place in 2157, long after people were forced to leave Earth because of its polluted air. While much of humanity is gone, the luxurious Gingarou Hotel in Tokyo remarkably remains open, maintained by dedicated robots. Despite its former fame for hospitality, the hotel hasn’t had a guest in decades, but the robotic staff continues to work tirelessly to keep everything running smoothly.
1) Secrets of the Silent Witch

In the hidden kingdom of Ridill, a long war against dragons has shaped the land. Monica Everett is a uniquely powerful mage – she doesn’t need spells to use magic. Preferring a quiet life, she’s unexpectedly drawn into a dangerous mission when another mage asks her to protect Prince Felix. To do so, Monica must overcome her social anxiety and go undercover as a student at Serendia Academy, balancing her personal challenges with her responsibility to keep the prince safe.
