10 Superheroes More Dangerous Than The Villains (and Yes, That Includes Superman)

The realm of superhero comics, populated by Marvel and DC, has become one of the wealthiest and most imaginative fictional worlds. While soap operas featuring superheroes have contributed significantly to the medium’s success, the clashes between heroes and villains in epic battles are equally thrilling. For decades, the action that could only be found in comics captivated many of us, including myself, as I reminisce about the past. The fights between powerful superheroes and villains were a major draw to the comic books we eagerly anticipated. It’s fantastic to witness these superpowered beings clashing, with the heroes employing their skills and powers in an attempt to overcome their foes. In some instances, the villains are even more powerful and dangerous than the heroes, adding an extra layer of excitement to the stories. However, it’s not always the case that the villains emerge victorious.

Some superheroes possess abilities and expertise that far surpass those of their adversaries, rendering them nearly invincible in combat. In numerous instances, these villains resort to underhanded tactics such as manipulating circumstances to level the playing field, often barely measuring up to the prodigious might of their formidable foes. The following list of ten superheroes is significantly more powerful than their antagonists, their extraordinary capabilities making them the most intimidating figures in the heroic community.

10) Captain Universe

Jonathan Hickman’s tenure writing the Avengers was an incredible epic, and he assembled the strongest team of Avengers ever known, dubbed the “Avengers Machine.” One noteworthy member of this team was Captain Universe. To any Marvel enthusiast, Captain Universe was recognizable as she donned the attire of the Enigma Force, a supreme energy that has been yielded by various heroes, including Spider-Man. However, Captain Universe stood out among other hosts. Tamara Devoux, a woman in a coma who was possessed by the Enigma Force, became the physical embodiment of the universe itself as the Incursions took their toll. With abilities bordering on omnipotence, Captain Universe could accomplish virtually anything. Yet, she chose to intervene only when she deemed it necessary. Often, she single-handedly won battles for the Avengers simply by appearing and using just a fraction of her power.

9) Hyperion

In various Marvel universes, there have been numerous characters resembling Hyperion, a Superman-like figure, but instead of being from Krypton, he was an Eternal and led the Squadron Supreme, a team mimicking the Justice League. However, in Hickman’s storyline, we encounter a fresh version of Hyperion hailing from Earth-13034, who joined the Avengers Machine as one of their most formidable members. This new Hyperion was so powerful he could move entire planets and made an attempt to save his world from Incursions by holding two planets apart, coming very close to success. He was stronger than nearly every adversary faced by the Avengers. Hyperion and Thor formed a friendship, teaming up to battle a group of Beyonders. Although they ultimately lost, their victory over multiple Beyonders offers a testament to just how powerful Hyperion truly is.

8) Hercules

When Marvel enthusiasts envision Hercules, they often picture him as Thor’s backup in the Avengers, a somewhat lesser divine figure who may be intriguing to read but not quite as formidable as the God of Thunder. Yet, this perception overlooks the immense power that Hercules possesses. Hercules is actually a demigod, born from Zeus, and earns his title of “Prince of Power” with good reason. Unlike Thor, Hercules doesn’t rely on rage; instead, he is as powerful as he wills himself to be. In essence, Hercules embodies the Hulk’s power without the need for anger, making him an extraordinary force in every battle.

7) Phoenix

As a passionate film fan, particularly of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I must confess that among its superpowered characters, none can rival Jean Grey as the Phoenix. The mighty Phoenix Force is one of the most potent energies within the Marvel multiverse, symbolizing the cosmic principles of death and rebirth. Essentially, Jean Grey serves as the embodiment of this force, wielding godlike psychic abilities that border on the infinite.

The Phoenix has the power to safeguard entire planets from catastrophic events like supernovas. Her might is practically boundless, with only one adversary ever coming close – Nathaniel Essex, who managed to challenge her only because he had evolved into a Dominion, an eternal, timeless being of divine nature.

Moreover, the Phoenix is infamous for its irresistible allure and ability to transform its wielders into the malevolent Dark Phoenix – the embodiment of death itself. Make no mistake; the Phoenix is a force that carries immense danger, and there’s simply no denying it.

6) Invisible Woman

Sue Richards, one of the most formidable human beings globally, acquired her extraordinary abilities during the fateful journey that gave rise to the Fantastic Four. Initially serving as the team’s spy and a potential hostage, her role evolved significantly after it was discovered that she could manipulate invisible energy. This transformation made her something akin to an Invisible Lantern, granting her capabilities to generate robust shields and construct objects out of unseen energy. By creating a bubble of destructive, invisible power around her adversaries and expanding it, Sue possesses the chilling ability to disintegrate anyone she chooses, making her one of the most terrifying individuals on Earth when enraged.

5) Firestorm

In the late ’70s, Firestorm rose to prominence among DC Comics’ cast of characters, but subsequently faced a decline in reputation. Over time, multiple individuals have taken on the role of Firestorm, yet they all exhibit extraordinary, somewhat unbelievable abilities. Firestorm is remarkably strong and invincible, boasts atomic energy powers, can manipulate density, has an uncanny memory recall, and can transform matter at will. With such capabilities, he can produce almost anything imaginable. His principal adversary is Killer Frost, a character endowed with ice-controlling powers, making him vastly superior to most opponents he encounters. To add to his prodigious powers, Firestorm functions as a nuclear reactor, posing a catastrophic threat if breached, capable of triggering a colossal nuclear explosion. In essence, Firestorm is exceptionally powerful, boasting the potential to be the most potent individual on Earth.

4) The Hulk

The Hulk is arguably the most powerful human being in existence. Empowered by the One Below All, he transforms into a universal primal monster, fueled by gamma energy that makes him an unrelenting force. The Hulk boasts incredible strength, remarkable durability, and an exceptional healing ability. As his anger intensifies, so does his power. Even Thanos, a formidable adversary, fears the Hulk due to his potential to defeat any opponent, given sufficient time. The Hulk has demonstrated the ability to break through dimensions and conquer gods. Undeniably terrifying, he can vanquish anyone he encounters, even without taking his anger-induced powers into account.

3) Lobo

As a passionate film buff, I can’t help but be captivated by the formidable character that is Lobo in the DC Multiverse. This unstoppable Czarnian is no ordinary being – he’s strong enough to lock horns with Superman and has annihilated almost every member of his own highly-powered race single-handedly.

But Lobo’s not just a tough guy; he’s indestructible, even when wounded, he can spawn new versions of himself from his blood! In combat, his titanic strength and invulnerability make him an unrelenting force that few can withstand.

Crafty as well, Lobo employs a masterful strategy in battle – feigning stupidity to lull opponents into a false sense of security before striking mercilessly. With his combat prowess, he has the ability to defeat virtually anyone he chooses to engage.

However, this lethal warrior isn’t one to play nicely with others. Despite teaming up with others, Lobo is always on the brink of exploding into violence and attacking his allies at any moment. He’s as dangerous as they come in the Multiverse.

2) Thor

Thor is known as the deity ruling thunder and storms, granting him mastery over such elements. Additionally, he possesses immense strength and resilience that make him an intimidating force in combat. However, these traits alone would only scratch the surface of Thor’s capabilities. He wields additional powers through Mjolnir, which amplifies his inherent abilities and grants access to energies capable of destroying entire planets, as well as allowing him to traverse space and time at will. As the King of Asgard, he can tap into the Odinforce – an immense reservoir of cosmic power – making him one of the mightiest gods in existence. In summary, Thor is a supremely powerful being, leaving few villains with the capacity to challenge both his power and ferocity.

1) Superman

As a devoted fan of DC comics, I’d rephrase that in my own words:

In the grand scheme of the DC Multiverse, I’ve come to realize that Superman isn’t necessarily the mightiest being in terms of raw power, but he sure does stand as the bedrock of its existence. His power level has been quite a rollercoaster ride over the years – at times, he could effortlessly move planets, zip across galaxies, and then there were periods when he could only lift hundreds of thousands of tons. But these days, it seems he’s more on par with his old self, capable of handling any situation with an appropriate level of power.

Superman tackles the most formidable threats that the universe can throw at him. While there are a few exceptions who might be stronger than Superman, they usually end up biting the dust against him. Put simply, Superman is one of the most dangerous beings out there – just take a look at how many times he’s been portrayed as having a darker side or even turning evil. The truth is, Superman has the potential to destroy almost anything, but only his own moral compass holds him back.
