10 Supernatural Marvel Heroes Who Could Appear in the MCU’s Dark Avengers Replacement

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been hearing calls for the Midnight Sons to finally show up in the MCU for ages, and I think it’s a fantastic idea! If it happens, there are ten supernatural heroes and villains who have to be part of this darker take on the Avengers. What makes the Midnight Sons so compelling is that they’re some of Marvel’s most interesting – and spooky – characters, creating a really unique team dynamic. The MCU has already given us glimpses of a few members, but there are others we still need to see, and honestly, these ten characters are essential to making it work.

The Midnight Sons first appeared in Marvel Comics in the early 1990s after Ghost Rider foresaw the return of a powerful demon. This led Ghost Rider, along with characters like Blade, Morbius, and Hannibal King, to form a team. They’ve continued to come together to fight increasingly dangerous enemies, with new and popular heroes joining their ranks over time. Today, the Midnight Sons are a well-loved Marvel team, and fans are eager to see them brought to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

10) Doctor Strange

If a Midnight Sons movie wants to include a well-known hero from the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Strange would be an excellent fit. He’s already one of the MCU’s biggest stars, and Benedict Cumberbatch is a popular actor who could lead the film. Because Strange is so powerful and important within the MCU, his involvement would immediately signal to fans that the Midnight Sons are a major addition to the universe.

Doctor Strange wasn’t initially an official member of the Midnight Sons, but he played a key role in bringing the team together. He later became a regular and important part of the group, appearing in many of their most famous adventures.

9) Blade

The Midnight Sons team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be greatly enhanced by the inclusion of Blade. While the standalone Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali hasn’t been released yet, the character has already appeared in the MCU through projects like Marvel Zombies and a post-credits scene in Eternals. Even if the Blade movie doesn’t happen, Ali could still make his first official appearance as Blade in a Midnight Sons film, potentially making that movie even more impactful.

It’s difficult to picture a Midnight Sons movie without Blade. He was an original member of the team and appears in many of their stories. If the planned Blade movie had been made, he would have definitely been included. Hopefully, the issues with that film won’t prevent him from joining the team on screen.

8) Wong

Wong, though often in the background, is a powerful MCU hero who could be a great fit for the Midnight Sons. As Doctor Strange’s trusted ally and now the Sorcerer Supreme, he brings significant magical ability to the team. Plus, with many Midnight Sons members being quite serious, Wong could provide some much-needed humor.

As a fan, I’ve been following Wong’s journey since he officially joined the Midnight Sons in the comics back in 2017 – a great move that really positions him well for a potential MCU appearance. Look, if Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange somehow doesn’t end up on that team, Wong absolutely needs to be there. Frankly, the Midnight Sons just won’t have anyone who can handle the magical side of things without either of those two!

7) Moon Knight

It’s unclear when Oscar Isaac will reprise his role as Moon Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He hasn’t been in any MCU projects since his show’s first season, and fans are eager for season 2, especially after that cliffhanger ending. If Marvel introduces the Midnight Sons team, bringing Moon Knight back will be essential.

In February 2017, Moon Knight – specifically his Mr. Knight persona – joined the Midnight Sons in the comics. Given this more recent version of the team, Moon Knight is a strong possibility to be included if the Midnight Sons are introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

6) Man-Thing

It’s easy to forget about Man-Thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s only had a small role so far, appearing in the 2022 Disney+ special, Werewolf by Night. Despite this limited appearance, the version of Man-Thing we saw was a great representation of the comic book character, and he deserves to be included in future projects with the Midnight Sons.

Man-Thing first joined the Midnight Sons in the 2009 comic Marvel Zombies 4 and has been a member ever since, consistently reappearing in different versions of the team. This makes him a great fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Midnight Sons, where he could serve as the team’s powerful monster, similar to the role Hulk plays in the Avengers.

5) Ghost Rider

Currently, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) lacks a Ghost Rider outside of the version seen in Agents of SHIELD, and that’s a significant issue for plans to introduce the Midnight Sons. Ghost Rider is essentially the leader and original member of the Midnight Sons team; they wouldn’t exist without him. While the team doesn’t need to follow the comics exactly, including Ghost Rider is crucial.

Johnny Blaze is the best-known Ghost Rider, making him a likely candidate for a Midnight Sons movie. However, Danny Ketch also played a key role in starting the team, and the film could feature any of the Ghost Riders.

4) Doctor Voodoo

Doctor Voodoo is a well-liked Marvel Comics character who hasn’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. Considering Marvel Studios is focusing less on introducing heroes through solo films, Doctor Voodoo’s debut will likely be in a Midnight Sons movie. This would be a great way to introduce the character and get fans excited about the film.

Voodoo joined the team in the comics in 2017, so she should also be included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe version. Her comic book connection to Doctor Strange and Wong could create a compelling relationship within the movie and provide a good reason for her to be part of the group.

3) Elsa Bloodstone

Elsa Bloodstone is already part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in the Disney+ special Werewolf by Night. She was also a member of the team in 2017, and adding her would bring valuable female representation to a group that’s historically been mostly male in the MCU.

Elsa Bloodstone is a compelling character who hasn’t had enough screen time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A Midnight Sons movie would be a great way to develop her story and introduce her, along with the other characters from Werewolf by Night, to a larger audience.

2) Werewolf by Night

I really hope we see Jack Russell, the Werewolf by Night, join the Midnight Sons in the MCU! It just feels wrong to introduce Elsa and Man-Thing without including the star of that fantastic special presentation. Honestly, making a Midnight Sons project a direct sequel to Werewolf by Night would be brilliant. It would really connect everything and give even more people a reason to go back and watch that awesome special!

In the fourth volume of Marvel Zombies, Werewolf by Night teamed up with the Midnight Sons. Interestingly, he wasn’t included when the team appeared in 2017. Still, adding him to the group would be a great way to emphasize the monstrous elements of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

1) Morbius

Morbius, the Living Vampire – a character known for internet memes – would be a great fit for the Midnight Sons if Marvel introduces that team to the big screen. He’s one of the most frequently featured members alongside Ghost Rider and Blade. However, the recent Morbius movie starring Jared Leto wasn’t very well-received, which could make it harder to get him included.

Because Sony owns the movie rights to Morbius, and the 2022 film wasn’t very successful, it’s unlikely the same actor will play him in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Marvel could simply choose a new actor and introduce a different version of Morbius, one that isn’t connected to Sony’s Spider-Man universe.
