The September 2025 video game release calendar shows that the fall video game rush is finally starting to trickle out. August had a solid lineup of games, but it was mostly a list of ports, remasters, and remakes. September, on the other hand, has more than its share of original titles, as well as a few sequels. And while sequels are heavily represented in any given month because of the way the market favors familiarity, the former category of brand-new franchises coming in September is notable. There are bound to be misses, but there is a wealth of possible new long-standing series that endure past one debut title.
Although there are many games coming out next year, here are the top 10 video games we’re most excited about that are set to launch in September 2025.
1) Metal Eden
The game named “Metal Eden” is an action-packed first-person shooter that blends the swift gameplay of the latest DOOM series with the futuristic, cyberpunk style of Ghostrunner. In this game, combat primarily focuses on agile movement and extracting cores from enemies, which can be utilized for both offensive and defensive purposes. This mechanic offers players a way to strategize during intense battles against an assortment of robotic foes.
Though the game’s stylish graphics deserve recognition, it’s the engaging combat that seems to set Metal Eden apart. The combat system may be its most captivating feature.
Release Date: September 2nd via PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
2) Hell Is Us
The game Hell Is Us appears tailored for players who prefer a challenge rather than being guided excessively. Positioned as an immersive experience demanding concentration and awareness, this third-person action title eschews map markers and waypoints, instead requiring players to solve puzzles and decipher destinations from environmental cues and dialogue.
While the combat resembles elements from Devil May Cry or Soulslike games, its freer approach is what sets it apart. This challenging balance presents an intriguing twist, offering a fresh attempt at something new in the gaming landscape.
Release Date: September 4th via PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
3) Cronos: The New Dawn
Cronos: The New Dawn – A Promising Step Forward for Bloober Team
In the gaming world, Cronos: The New Dawn serves as Bloober Team’s ambitious attempt to demonstrate that their stellar work on the Silent Hill 2 remake wasn’t a mere fluke. This terrifying adventure game echoes elements from acclaimed titles such as Dead Space and Resident Evil 4, with its core mechanic revolving around third-person combat against grotesquely twisted creatures.
What sets this game apart is that even after these monsters have been slain, they remain a danger due to their living brethren merging with the dead bodies to spawn even more fearsome abominations. As if that wasn’t enough, the game unfolds in an alternate reality of Poland under Soviet rule, offering a distinct backdrop for players to immerse themselves in.
While it still has work to prove itself, there is certainly potential here that gamers can look forward to exploring.
Release Date: September 5th via PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC
4) Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots
The classic video game series, “Hot Shots Golf”, which has been a staple in Sony’s catalog for years, is making a return, but this time as a licensed game that Bandai Namco is publishing. Although Clap Hanz, the creators of the series, are not developing the game this time around, the new title, “Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots”, seems to retain the elements that made the franchise popular, such as its user-friendly, arcade-style golf gameplay and customizable characters.
Release Date: September 5th via PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC
5) Baby Steps
The game titled “Baby Steps” is widely appreciated due to its comically ridiculous gameplay and playful style that often results in players tripping repeatedly. This absurd creation is the brainchild of a collective of developers responsible for successful indie games such as “Ape Out” and “Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy.” Interestingly, Baby Steps shares similarities with Getting Over It.
However, humor-based games don’t always maintain their charm over extended play sessions. Therefore, it remains to be seen how long the amusement offered by Baby Steps will last. Nevertheless, upon first glance, it appears quite funny indeed.
Release Date: September 5th via PS5 and PC
6) Borderlands 4
In simpler terms, Borderlands 4 continues the series’ signature style with an abundance of unique weapons, set on an extraterrestrial world, and emphasizing multiplayer action. Since its inception, this has been a hallmark of the franchise. However, it’s updating loot distribution to be more balanced and the gameplay pace faster, with players moving more freely during shootouts. It’s also rumored to have less crude humor, although Gearbox Software’s claim about this needs further confirmation. Essentially, Borderlands 4 appears to be a refined and essential compilation of the beloved shooter series.
Release Date: September 12th via PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC
7) Dying Light: The Beast
Initially intended as a downloadable content (DLC) for Dying Light 2, The Beast has evolved into a standalone game featuring Kyle Crane, the original series’ protagonist, who is on a mission for revenge following the grim ending of Dying Light: The Following. With enhanced superhuman abilities, this vengeance-driven journey promises to be even more action-packed and bloody.
Notably, The Beast will introduce the darker, scarier nighttime gameplay that was originally a part of the original Dying Light but required a patch in Dying Light 2 due to fan demand. As Techland seems to be catering to fan requests with this game, it remains to be seen how distinct it will be, given fans’ tendency to ask for familiar elements.
Release Date: September 19th via PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
8) Silent Hill f
The latest installment, titled “Silent Hill f,”, stands out as the first genuinely new and traditionally styled Silent Hill game since 2012’s “Silent Hill: Downpour”. Given the high expectations that come with this fresh start, it aims to blaze new trails rather than simply replicating Silent Hill 2. Unlike its predecessors, it features a younger protagonist and is set in a fictional Japanese town – significant departures from the original series. Despite the turbulence that the franchise has faced since the initial trilogy, this game could potentially revive Silent Hill to a portion of its former glory.
Release Date: September 25th via PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC
9) Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
Sonic Racing games have consistently shone in the racing genre, and it’s expected that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will follow suit, even though it doesn’t offer as much cooperative racing as Team Sonic Racing. However, it’s focusing on providing more content than previous editions. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds offers a multitude of customization options and a wide range of new racers, some of which come from outside the Sonic universe, such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Steve from Minecraft, Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from Like a Dragon, and Joker from Persona 5. Not only is more content better, but it seems that more is indeed here to offer.
Launch Date Set For: September 25th on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, the new Nintendo Switch, and PC
10) Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles
The revamped edition of “Final Fantasy Tactics” titled “The Ivalice Chronicles” offers an upgraded version of the highly acclaimed tactics game initially released in Japan on PlayStation in 1997 (and globally in 1998). This remaster includes a revised script, auto-saving, bug fixes, easier difficulty levels, enhanced graphics, and full voice acting. However, it won’t encompass all the new content from the 2007 PSP version, “The War of the Lions,” which was not included in this remaster. Despite missing these additional elements, it is expected to introduce this classic strategic Final Fantasy game to a large number of new players eager for such an experience.
Launch Date: September 30th on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, the upcoming Nintendo Switch version, and PC.
