10 Worst Spider-Man Suits, Ranked

Spider-Man’s red and blue suit is easily one of the most recognizable superhero costumes ever created. However, over time, Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and other Spider-People have worn a huge variety of suits. While some of these new designs, such as Peter’s black symbiote suit, were hugely popular with fans and became instant classics, not all of them were winners. With so many redesigns, it’s inevitable that some costumes didn’t quite hit the mark-many only appeared for a single issue or two because they were uninspired, too busy, or simply didn’t look good. Some of these were meant to be taken seriously, while others were clearly intended as jokes.

These are the costumes that Marvel’s Spider-Men should have, or has, thrown in the trash.

10) Electro-Proof Suit

To defeat Electro, Peter Parker designed a suit made of rubber to shield him from the villain’s electrical attacks. While the suit prioritized function over fashion, the final look wasn’t very attractive. The original bright red color was changed to a dull, brownish-red, and the suit was heavily padded for protection. Even the spider emblem looked strange – the way the four legs were positioned made it look like the number eight. Because Peter only wears this suit when battling Electro, it doesn’t appear as often as his other costumes.

9) Dusk Costume

After Norman Osborn wrongly accused Spider-Man of murder, Peter Parker created four different personas to keep up the fight against crime. These new superhero identities were Prodigy, Hornet, Ricochet, and Dusk. Peter switched between these four identities to confuse criminals and take them by surprise. Of the four, Dusk had the simplest – and least imaginative – design. The costume was merely a black outline, lacking any significant details. This minimalist approach felt uninspired and easily forgotten. Once Peter cleared his name, he permanently retired all four alternate identities.

8) Scarlet Spider’s Cosplay Costume

Peter Parker’s clone, Ben Reilly, also known as Scarlet Spider, first appeared wearing a memorable red suit with a torn blue hoodie. But when Ben went on the run, he grabbed a Spider-Man costume from a cosplayer to disguise himself. Sadly, the costume he took was terrible. It was a cluttered and overly complicated design. What really stood out – and not in a good way – was that you could see the shape of Ben’s mouth through the mask, creating unintentionally funny expressions. Fans strongly disliked the costume, so Marvel quickly brought Ben back to his original, classic look.

7) Spider-Goblin Armor

Okay, so things got seriously weird for Peter. He somehow ended up burdened with all the bad deeds of his biggest enemy, Norman Osborn – you know, the Green Goblin. It completely messed with his head, and he ended up creating this awful costume – a really strange mix of his Spider-Man suit and the Green Goblin’s. Honestly, it was supposed to be intimidating, but with the Green Goblin mask only *partially* covered by the Spider-Man mask, it just came off as ridiculous. Plus, all that dark purple really hid the iconic webbing on his Spider-Man suit. Using this messed-up outfit and the Green Goblin’s glider, Peter started going after anyone he felt had done him wrong – it was a really dark turn for him.

6) Miles Morales Baggy Costume

Miles Morales changed his famous Spider-Man suit because the villain Selim was trying to trick people into thinking Miles committed crimes by wearing an exact copy. The new suit Miles wears looks like a large, loose sweater over his usual costume. It seems much too big for a hero who does dangerous and athletic stunts. Plus, the extra sweater isn’t really necessary. The oversized shirt can be taken off, showing a much more streamlined design underneath. It would have been more logical for Miles to remove the baggy shirt and just use the practical, close-fitting costume he already had.

5) Cyborg Spider-Man

After a tough fight leaves Peter seriously hurt, the cybernetic specialist Oscar McDonnel gives Spider-Man a very ’90s makeover. He’s fitted with a cybernetic arm cast and a goggle over one eye, making him look like a strange version of the cyborg hero Cable. The arm cast is also much bigger than it needs to be. Peter also receives extra bandages and belts to fit the anti-hero style that was popular then. Luckily, Peter got rid of these “improvements” once he recovered fully, which only took a few days. Some characters just don’t need a darker, edgier redesign. It just doesn’t suit them.

4) Peter’s Wrestling Outfit

Before Peter created his famous red and blue costume, his first attempt at a disguise was much simpler and less exciting. After getting his spider powers, Peter turned to wrestling as a way to make money. Since he couldn’t afford an elaborate outfit, he quickly assembled a costume consisting of a white shirt, blue pants, and a grey mask. It wasn’t exactly inspiring, but it did provide a clear difference from the superhero look he would eventually develop. Thankfully, this initial, plain disguise was replaced with the iconic Spider-Man suit that we all recognize and adore.

3) Threats and Menaces Suit

A particularly awkward chapter in Spider-Man’s career happened when he tried his hand at live streaming. Hoping to earn some extra cash, Peter Parker designed a suit that would broadcast his adventures and let him interact with an audience. However, the suit’s design was overly busy and didn’t look very good – it lacked a sense of flow and visual harmony. The color scheme of grey, blue, and orange also made the costume unattractive. Furthermore, the concept of Peter broadcasting his crime-fighting for profit felt wrong, considering his backstory emphasized learning that his powers shouldn’t be used for personal financial gain.

2) Spider-Naut

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I have to say, sometimes the story takes weird turns! It’s fascinating how, in exchange for unbelievable strength, Peter basically lost all sense of style. During the Eight Deaths of Spider-Man storyline, he kept dying while trying to take down this incredibly powerful being called Cyttorak – the same one who gave Juggernaut his powers. Apparently, Cyttorak’s daughter, Cyra, was really impressed by Peter’s bravery, so she shared some of her father’s power with him. This turned Peter into a seriously strong powerhouse, strong enough to actually go toe-to-toe with Cyttorak himself. But… the design? Let’s just say it didn’t work. He became this huge, bulky figure with a dome helmet, and the whole thing, combined with the Spider-Man suit, made him look like a ridiculous bubble man – honestly, a Spidey version of the Michelin Tire Man! The idea of our agile, web-slinging hero just *charging* through buildings like a bulldozer always felt completely out of place and, in my opinion, should have been cut from the story.

1) The Bombastic Bag-Man

When Peter can’t use his regular costumes, he has to wear the silly Bombastic Bag-Man outfit. After getting rid of the black symbiote costume, Johnny Storm from the Fantastic Four tried to “help” Peter by giving him an extra costume to wear. Because the Fantastic Four costumes don’t include masks, Peter had to make one out of a paper bag with holes cut out for his eyes. Johnny also playfully taped a “Kick Me” sign to the back without Peter knowing. Since that first time, Peter has unfortunately had to wear the Bag-Man costume several times. It was always intended as a joke, and Peter really hates wearing it – and many readers feel the same way!
