The X-Men are officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many believe we’ll see individual movies focusing on mutant characters after Avengers: Secret Wars. Reports suggest the first X-Men team featured in a dedicated MCU film will be a new, younger group of lesser-known heroes, setting them apart from the previous X-Men films. However, popular characters from the X-Men universe may also eventually get their own solo movies, similar to how the Avengers were introduced. This opens up exciting possibilities for which X-Men characters could lead those stories.
Here is a look at 10 X-Men who deserve their own solo movies in the MCU.
10) Beast

Beast is a compelling character who hasn’t quite lived up to his potential in the X-Men films. If Marvel Studios gives him his own movie, they could go in a couple of directions. They could portray him as the cheerful, friendly Beast, even pairing him up with another hero like Wonder Man. However, a more impactful approach would be to explore his darker side. They could showcase his morally ambiguous scientific skills and turn him into a threat to the mutant community, similar to his villainous arc in the Marvel comics.
9) Kitty Pryde

A solo movie starring Kitty Pryde is long overdue, but it should focus on her as the mature, capable Kate Pryde, not the younger version from her first X-Men appearances. The film could showcase her leadership skills and often-underestimated powers. This would also be a great opportunity to introduce Emma Frost into the MCU, establishing their established friendship and Frost’s admiration for Pryde. Importantly, the movie should embrace Pryde’s LGBTQ+ identity, continuing the tradition of inclusivity that Chris Claremont brought to the X-Men comics.
8) Bishop

As a huge MCU fan, I’ve always thought Bishop deserves his own film. His backstory is ripe for a really cool, sci-fi focused story. Seriously, the idea of him coming from a future where mutants were persecuted after a disaster – one caused by Hope Summers, which turned everyone against them – is incredibly compelling. He basically traveled back in time to prevent that future from happening, putting him on a collision course with the X-Men and Cable, who were trying to protect the person he saw as a threat. Now, it’s true that this plot shares similarities with Cable’s story in Deadpool 2, but time travel is a tricky thing, and there’s still plenty of room to explore a unique and entertaining narrative with Bishop. The MCU could really do something special with it.
7) Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler stood out in X-Men 2 and his cameos in the earlier films were enjoyable. Fans believe this popular character deserves a more significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel has many exciting possibilities for his story. They could adapt the intense God Loves, Man Kills storyline, as Nightcrawler’s appearance played a key part in turning public opinion against mutants. Alternatively, they could create a thrilling, action-packed adventure, mirroring the fun, swashbuckling stories from the comics.
6) Jean Grey

Look, I know it’s a bit of a dream, but I’d love to see Jean Grey get her own movie in the MCU! I’m a little worried though, because Fox already tried the Dark Phoenix Saga twice, and both times… well, they didn’t really stick the landing. It felt like they were trying to fit it into a larger story when it really should have been the focus. But if Marvel does decide to revisit it, I think sending Jean, as Phoenix, into space could be amazing! It’d be a perfect way to introduce the Shi’ar Empire and some really cool villains like The Brood. Honestly, it could open up a whole new side of the universe!
5) Cable

Cable made a strong debut in Deadpool 2, with Josh Brolin delivering a fantastic performance. Now that his quest for revenge is over, Cable deserves his own movie where he’s the main hero. With Deadpool now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it makes sense for Cable to join him there. While it might be complicated to establish him as the son of Scott Summers and develop that relationship, a more mature X-Force storyline featuring Cable and Domino could be a great fit. Ultimately, Brolin proved he’s perfect for the role and should reprise it.
4) Rogue

Many fans feel Rogue wasn’t utilized to her full potential in the original X-Men films, despite being a central character. While Anna Paquin delivered a solid performance, it didn’t quite capture the essence of Rogue from the comics or animated series. A key moment that disappointed fans was when she took a cure to remove her powers, as this went against her core identity as a mutant. A solo movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe could offer a chance to finally showcase the strong and powerful Rogue that comic book readers know and love.
3) Cyclops

Cyclops hasn’t had a great run in the X-Men movies so far. He was portrayed as an unlikeable and often comical character in the original films, and felt unimportant in the prequels. This is a shame, because in the Marvel comics, Cyclops is considered one of the best tactical leaders – even Captain America acknowledges his skill. He’s a complex leader who isn’t afraid to make tough calls, and sometimes his focus on turning mutants into a fighting force has gone too far. More than any other character, Cyclops deserves a chance to shine in the MCU, and a dedicated movie could finally show fans just how capable he is.
2) Gambit

Gambit deserves his own movie, and Channing Tatum is the perfect actor for the role. He’s been a longtime advocate for a Gambit film, and his recent appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine proved how captivating he is as the character. Now’s the time to give Gambit his own spotlight, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe should make it happen. A story focused on Gambit’s connections to the Thieves’ Guild, separate from the X-Men and Rogue, would allow the character to truly stand out.
1) Storm

The original X-Men films didn’t do Storm justice. Despite Halle Berry’s performance, the character was reduced to just another mutant, failing to capture her true power. In the comics, Storm is a formidable warrior and one of the strongest mutants, capable of winning battles even without her abilities. She’s a majestic, almost godlike figure, renowned for her heroic actions and mastery of the weather. Storm deserves to be a leading figure among the X-Men, not lost in the background. A solo film for Storm, perhaps exploring a collaboration with the Wakandans, would be fantastic. She’s the X-Men member the MCU should really focus on elevating as they introduce mutants into their universe.
