The X-Men are among the most beloved teams in superhero comics history. Their comics consistently topped the sales charts, with titles like X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and Wolverine being huge hits in the 1990s, a time when comic books were incredibly popular. Marvel has always assigned top-tier artists and writers to the X-Men, resulting in visually stunning stories. In fact, the team’s costumes have become some of the most recognizable and iconic in the world of comics.
The X-Men are known for their costumes – some are fantastic, others not so much. But a few team members have had way too many different looks, and the quality has often been inconsistent. Here are ten X-Men with overflowing costume closets – they’ve worn more outfits than you’d believe.
10) Kitty Pryde

As a longtime X-Men fan, I always found Kitty Pryde’s style evolution fascinating. She joined the team so young, around 13, and you really saw her figuring things out alongside her superhero life. It was fun (and a little awkward!) watching her experiment with different looks, especially early on when she started with a costume very similar to Jean Grey’s. Honestly, her first few outfits weren’t her best! It wasn’t until she became Shadowcat that she really hit her stride with a truly great costume. She didn’t get a major redesign after that until she rejoined the team in Astonishing X-Men (Vol. 3). Since then, it’s been mostly variations on that same theme – a few color swaps here and there. She even had a cool pirate look for a while, but she’s back to a tweaked version of her Astonishing X-Men outfit now.
9) Psylocke

Psylocke is famous for the costume she wore after her mind was transferred into the body of the assassin Kwannon, but she’s worn many outfits over the years. Before that, she had looks like her Captain Britain uniform and a stylish hooded outfit. While her ’90s costume designed by Jim Lee is iconic and has been updated several times, she currently sports a completely new design that’s both modern and true to her character – especially now that Betsy Braddock and Kwannon are back in their original bodies.
8) Magneto

Magneto is famously both a friend and enemy to the X-Men, and surprisingly, he’s worn a lot of different outfits over the years. Most people recognize his iconic purple and red look, and the recent X-Men ’97 series showcased the costume he wore during the “Trial of Magneto” storyline in Uncanny X-Men #200. However, those are just a few examples – he’s also sported several black and white variations, sometimes with long sleeves and sometimes in a more traditional style. Plus, there are all the costumes from alternate realities! Right now, he’s often seen in a suit and wheelchair, but he always manages to look sharp.
7) Jean Grey

Jean Grey was the first female member of the X-Men, and over the years, she’s sported some truly iconic outfits. From the team’s original uniform to a memorable green miniskirt, and especially her powerful Phoenix and Dark Phoenix looks, she’s consistently had stylish and impactful designs. Considering her costumes from different universes and the popular ’90s look created by Jim Lee, Jean has a vast and impressive wardrobe, solidifying her status as a fashion icon and a central figure in the X-Men’s history.
6) Rachel Summers

The Summers family plays a central role in the X-Men’s story, but the family tree can get complicated, especially with characters like Rachel Summers. Rachel comes from the alternate future timeline seen in “Days of Future Past,” where she’s the daughter of Cyclops and the Phoenix, and possesses a piece of the Phoenix Force. She’s known for her various costumes, with her Hound look being the most iconic. Like her mother in her own universe, Rachel has sported many different outfits over the years, though fans haven’t always loved her designs since 2010. While her costume collection isn’t as extensive as some other female X-Men, she definitely makes an effort.
5) Emma Frost

It’s no surprise Emma Frost has so many different outfits. She’s always been very focused on her appearance and has the wealth and style to create stunning looks – and a little help from cosmetic surgery! Though she grew up rich, she didn’t start expressing it through fashion until she became financially independent from her family. When she was a villain, her outfits were often provocative, featuring white dominatrix-style clothing that made a strong impression on many. As leader of Generation X, she kept the fitted corsets but began wearing pants. When she joined the X-Men, her style evolved into a blend of superhero practicality and high fashion. And if you ask Emma, she’s not just the best-dressed member of the team, but a true fashion icon of the X-Men.
4) Storm

Storm began her career as a superhero with a famously striking costume, and she’s continued to impress with every new look since then. While many heroes are known for a single iconic outfit, Storm has sported a huge variety of styles. Her most memorable costumes – including her original, a punk-inspired look, and the silver designs from the 1990s – are fan favorites, but they’re only a small part of her incredible fashion history. She’s a true style icon and consistently delivers some of the best looks the team has ever seen.
3) Rogue

Rogue has been a beloved member of the team since the early 1980s. While many fans immediately picture her iconic 90s bodysuit and leather jacket or her Savage Land outfit, she’s actually worn a lot of different costumes over the years. Some, like her original green and white look, were excellent and memorable debuts. Others were just okay – in fact, there have been more average costumes than truly great ones. Her wardrobe has definitely seen both impressive peaks and some underwhelming designs.
2) Wolverine

Wolverine is a popular character, so it’s no surprise he’s worn many different outfits over the years. Most fans immediately think of his classic yellow and blue or brown and yellow costumes, but there have been several variations of those. He’s also sported black and grey suits, various Weapon X designs, a simple black costume from the late 80s, and even armor when he temporarily lost his healing ability. Plus, there are all the alternate reality costumes! Despite his rough exterior, Wolverine actually has a knack for great costumes.
1) Cyclops

Cyclops has always been known for his fantastic costumes. From the classic blue and yellow X-Men suit to his navy blue uniform and beyond, he’s consistently had a great look. He sported several costumes during his time leading X-Factor, then the iconic Jim Lee design of the 90s, and later the leather look popularized by the movie. Even since then, he’s continued to wear impressive outfits. As the team leader and a figure of respect, he always looks the part.
