Many films and TV shows explore time travel, like Back to the Future, Quantum Leap, and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. But one often overlooked gem is a sci-fi series with a truly original approach to the idea, and it’s been absent from view for too long. Luckily, you can now watch the entire series for free on Plex.
The series takes place in a future where the United States has taken over Canada. A terrorist group called Liber8 uses time travel to go back to 2012, and accidentally brings police officer Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols) with them. Now stranded in the past, Cameron is determined to find the members of Liber8 and stop the terrible events that will happen in her future. Here’s a more detailed overview of the story:
Detective Kiera Cameron is a police officer from 2077 who grew up depending heavily on technology. She finds herself stranded in present-day Vancouver alongside a dangerous group of criminals known as Liber8. Kiera must stop Liber8 from dismantling the powerful corporations that will eventually control the future – and thus, prevent her own timeline from being erased. To get back to 2077, she teams up with Alec Sadler, a brilliant teenage hacker, and works alongside Detective Carlos Fonnegra of the Vancouver Police Department to monitor Liber8’s activities. Despite their differing viewpoints and backgrounds, Kiera and Carlos forge a working relationship, and Kiera begins to rely more on her own instincts.
This show is full of the time-bending twists you’d expect, constantly jumping between characters’ futures and pasts to demonstrate how choices alter timelines. From Simon Berry, the creator of the unfortunately short-lived Warrior Nun, Continuum aired for three seasons before receiving a final season to conclude the story. Despite being cancelled, the last two seasons were actually some of the show’s best, making for a satisfying, yet sad, ending.
‘Continuum’ Is One of the Best Time Travel Shows Ever Made

The sci-fi series Continuum finished its run in 2015 after four seasons, earning high praise from both critics (88%) and viewers (86%). Now, a decade later, it’s available on Plex, and fans of time travel stories will definitely enjoy it.
Wow, I have to say, when Continuum got cancelled, it really bummed a lot of us out – many fans, myself included, thought it was one of the best shows Canada had ever produced! It was just consistently good, and I know I wasn’t alone in wanting to rewatch the whole thing. The frustrating part was, it wasn’t available on any of the major streaming services. But now, thanks to Plex, that’s changed! Not only can you watch Continuum in the U.S., but it’s completely free. That’s a fantastic bonus and a great way to discover (or rediscover) this gem of a show.
