Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 6
I was so excited to see Krysten Ritter reprise her role as Jessica Jones in the latest season of Daredevil: Born Again! It’s amazing to have her back alongside Daredevil, especially since we all loved her in the old Netflix Marvel shows. Episode 6 is packed with fun little nods to that previous era, plus a bunch of Easter eggs and some really cool new characters being introduced. It’s a great season so far!
Episode 6 of Daredevil: Born Again reveals what Jessica Jones has been up to since her last appearance in 2019. The episode also features a tense showdown between Daredevil and Mayor Fisk, who is reeling from the recent loss of his wife, Vanessa.
This new episode of Daredevil: Born Again kicks off an exciting team-up between Jessica Jones and Daredevil, and it’s packed with fun references and callbacks to past Marvel stories. Here’s a rundown of the biggest Easter eggs, connections to the wider MCU, and nods to the old Netflix series we spotted in season 2, episode 6.
1. The Biggest and Best Easter Eggs and MCU References In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 6
Following Vanessa’s death, Mayor Fisk remembers cherished moments with his wife, shown through flashbacks from seasons one and three of the Netflix series Daredevil.
The recent attack on Jessica Jones’ home revealed she has a daughter named Danielle, born after the events of Jessica Jones season 3. This mirrors the comics, where Jessica also has a daughter named Danielle with Luke Cage. It’s therefore likely that this relationship will also be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The introduction of Jessica Jones in her latest on-screen appearance, comforting her daughter, features her signature theme music. This music was originally created by Sean Callery for her earlier Netflix series.
Father Lantom appears in season 2, episode 6 of Daredevil: Born Again. He was an important mentor to Matt Murdock during his childhood at St. Agnes and continued to offer guidance when Murdock became Daredevil.
In season 3 of Daredevil, Father Lantom was killed by Bullseye at Clinton Church. This was particularly impactful because, in the prior episode of Born Again, Daredevil had shown Bullseye – then known as Benjamin Pondexter – an extraordinary act of kindness by saving his life at the very same church, refusing to let him die.
In Netflix’s Daredevil season 1, Karen Page reveals she murdered Wesley, and admits she still has nightmares about it but feels no remorse. Wesley, who was originally Kingpin’s top aide, recently reappeared in new flashback scenes in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 5. The episode also shows footage of Karen killing Wesley from the original Daredevil series.
Following Vanessa Fisk’s funeral, the governor hinted that Sheila might not need to campaign for a higher position, suggesting a plan to remove Mayor Wilson Fisk and have Sheila replace him. With Sheila appearing in the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day – even presenting Spider-Man with the key to the city – it seems likely she’ll become the temporary mayor of New York once Fisk is defeated in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During a conversation with Daredevil, Jessica Jones reveals that Mr. Charles and the CIA are connected to Mayor Fisk. She also shares that they are tracking individuals with powers and vigilantes. Although she refused to cooperate with them herself, she suggests that Luke Cage may have agreed to work with them, which explains why he’s currently missing. Despite this, it’s been confirmed through various sources that Luke Cage will return in the third season of Daredevil: Born Again.
Jessica explains to Daredevil that becoming a mother has changed her superpowers. Her strength and ability to withstand damage aren’t consistent anymore – they fluctuate. We see this happening during her partnership with Matt, as she starts out strong but gradually finds herself unable to hit with her usual force.
The Netflix series Jessica Jones established that Jessica gained her abilities through genetic experiments performed by an organization called IGH. Considering this, it’s logical that the significant and lasting physical changes from pregnancy are now causing problems with her powers.
The phrase “Hello Karen” might seem harmless, but it’s actually a chilling signature line used by the villain Bullseye. He first said it in the Netflix series Daredevil season 3, and its recurrence – this time as he wakes up tied to a bed in Frank Castle’s old hideout with Karen watching him – is a deliberately unsettling moment.
The scene shows Karen pointing a gun at Bullseye, intercut with flashbacks of Foggy Nelson. These flashbacks come from both the original Daredevil series on Netflix and the first season of Born Again, specifically showing Karen holding Foggy after he was shot by Poindexter in the premiere episode.
I was on the edge of my seat watching the end of Daredevil: Born Again! It was so intense seeing Daredevil try to make Fisk see reason, basically begging him to call a truce and both leave New York. He was desperate to avoid anyone else getting hurt, but Fisk just wouldn’t listen. He completely rejected the offer and immediately attacked Murdock, which was heartbreaking to watch.
The confrontation happens before the famous “Rabbit in a Snowstorm” painting – the same one where Daredevil and Fisk battled at the close of season 3 of the Netflix series Daredevil. You can even still see Fisk’s bloodstains from when Daredevil defeated him there.
The scene takes a heartbreaking turn when Fisk accidentally pushes Daredevil into a painting that held special meaning for his late wife, Vanessa – a particularly cruel blow for him. Despite his grief, Fisk continues to attack Daredevil, and Murdock’s blood ends up on the painting, mirroring their endless conflict. This sets the stage for a devastating conclusion to Born Again season 2, hinting at further loss and violence in the final two episodes.
Marvel Studios will release new episodes of Daredevil: Born Again season two on Disney+ every Tuesday night.
