11 Years Ago, Star Wars Introduced an Iconic New Character That Still Needs to Meet His Rival on the Big Screen

Star Wars has always been full of great rivalries, starting with the iconic battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader in what was originally released as A New Hope. Over the years, we’ve seen many others, like the conflicts between Han Solo and Boba Fett, Rey and Kylo Ren, and even Ahsoka Tano and Baylan Skoll. Because Star Wars exists across so many different movies, shows, and books, new rivalries are constantly being added to the story.

Comics have given Princess Leia a memorable enemy: Commander Ellian Zahra, a former student of Grand Moff Tarkin who wants revenge on the Rebellion by tracking her down. Eleven years ago, another great rivalry was established in the Star Wars comics, and that character has since appeared in the live-action series. However, surprisingly, these two rivals have never actually crossed paths.

Black Krrsantan is the Perfect Nemesis for Chewbacca

Black Krrsantan first appeared in Charles Soule and Salvador Larroca’s Darth Vader #1 and stands out as an unusual Wookiee. While most Wookiees, like Chewbacca, are known for their bravery and loyalty, Black Krrsantan abandoned his home planet, Kashyyyk, to become a notorious and ruthless bounty hunter. He’s widely seen as having no sense of honor or moral principles.

Wookiees and Trandoshans have been fighting a long-standing war, with the Trandoshans often capturing Wookiees to force them to fight as gladiators. However, Black Krrsantan actually wanted to compete in these arenas. He started his career as a gladiator, quickly becoming known for his incredible strength and excellent fighting skills. He rose to become a heavyweight champion, and then used his reputation to start a new career as a bounty hunter, first working for Jabba the Hutt.

Black Krrsantan is a character built on a familiar comic book idea: he’s a dark reflection of Chewbacca and a natural enemy for Han Solo. The comics have shown them fighting on several occasions, and those battles were fantastic. Despite appearing in The Book of Boba Fett, their rivalry hasn’t been seen in any movies or TV shows yet.

Black Krrsantan Has Made His Way Into Live-Action Too

Black Krrsantan was a memorable character in The Book of Boba Fett, brought to life by Carey Jones, a very tall stunt performer (he’s also famous for playing Predators!). Initially, he worked as a bodyguard for the Hutt twins and was even hired to try and kill Boba Fett. However, Fett’s allies intervened, stopping him. Unhappy with his failure, the Hutts fired him, and Black Krrsantan eventually joined Boba Fett’s team.

The show The Book of Boba Fett didn’t really resonate with audiences – it only has a 48% score on Rotten Tomatoes – and Lucasfilm seems unsure of what to do with the characters introduced. Temuera Morrison, who played the lead, hasn’t been featured much since the show aired, and it’s unlikely we’ll see his supporting characters again anytime soon. This is disappointing for fans hoping to see the full development of Black Krrsantan’s major rivalry, as it probably won’t happen in live-action.

Joonas Suotamo currently plays Chewbacca, but it looks like Chewie – and even newer characters like Black Krrsantan – won’t be appearing in upcoming Star Wars TV shows. The shows seem to be focusing on new characters, intentionally leaving out those from the original trilogy. While Lucasfilm has new leadership and things could change, there’s also been no real movement on the planned Rey movie since it was announced in 2023, and Chewbacca isn’t expected to be in it. It’s a shame that such a memorable character has been developed, only for his potential storylines to seemingly remain unseen by most fans.
