11 Years Later, Netflix Is Finally Streaming One of The Biggest Isekai Anime of All Time

Netflix continues to impress viewers with its constant stream of new releases, and 2026 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for anime fans. The platform recently started streaming Gintama, a beloved classic from Shonen Jump created by Hideaki Sorachi, and the rest of the year looks just as promising. With the Spring 2026 anime season underway, Netflix is consistently adding more titles to its collection. Fans often consider Overlord, a popular isekai anime that first debuted in 2015, to be one of the best in the genre. All four seasons of Overlord became available on Netflix starting April 1st, 2026. Plus, the official Netflix Anime X account has announced eight more series coming to the platform in April and May 2026.

The release dates for these series haven’t been officially announced yet, but the platform will share them soon. One highlight is Overlord: Sacred Kingdom, the third movie in the Overlord series, which came out in 2024. With the April schedule now available, it might start streaming next month. Until then, fans can rewatch all four seasons of Overlord.

What Is Overlord About?

This anime is adapted from a novel by so-bin, with illustrations by Kugane Maruyama. It’s about a player who finds himself transported into a massive virtual reality game called Yggdrasil, where he becomes a very powerful character. Yggdrasil is famous for letting players do almost anything they want after a quick introduction – they’re free to explore and completely customize their characters and equipment. The game is scheduled to shut down in the year 2138, and one dedicated player, Momonga, chooses to stay logged in as his guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, until the very last moment.

Something unexpected happened, and when midnight struck, Momonga couldn’t log out of the game. He found himself inside the virtual world, trapped in his skeletal avatar! Now, he’s trying to understand how this happened and find a way back to reality. To his surprise, the game’s NPCs aren’t just mindless programs—they have their own personalities. Hoping to solve the mystery and escape, Momonga asks his trusted servants to help him investigate.

He’s also determined to rule this new world and connect with others who share his situation. The anime is created by Madhouse, a highly respected Japanese animation studio known for its beautiful artwork. The fourth season came out in 2022, but there haven’t been any announcements about a fifth season recently. Because the original story is still being written, another season of the anime is likely, though fans may have to be patient.
