12 Years After Controversial Marvel Debut, an MCU Favorite Reveals His Character’s Origin Is Coming in 2026

Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its interconnected stories in movies and TV shows, it often drops plotlines and characters. Since the release of Avengers: Endgame, the connections between different Marvel projects have become much less frequent. Several characters who were expected to have important roles – like Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, and Shuri – haven’t appeared in new stories for a long time. And some key characters, such as Kang the Conqueror, have been removed from plans and replaced.

Surprisingly, one Marvel Cinematic Universe character has appeared in more projects since Endgame. Trevor Slattery, played by Sir Ben Kingsley, pretended to be the villain “The Mandarin” in Iron Man 3 and had a brief scene after the credits. He reappeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as a prisoner of the real Mandarin, Xu Wenwu. After being freed, he assisted Shang-Chi in defeating the Dweller-in-Darkness and decided to stay in the magical land of Ta Lo. Now, Trevor Slattery’s story will continue in the upcoming Disney+ series Wonder Man, which will finally reveal the origins of this unusual actor.

I’m really excited about Wonder Man! It stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, an actor trying to land the lead role in a big superhero movie within the Marvel universe – it’s a remake of a classic! What’s even cooler is that Simon actually has superpowers, which definitely gives him an edge in the audition process, to say the least.

Trevor Slattery Is Getting An Origin Story In Marvel’s Wonder Man

Ben Kingsley, discussing his role in the upcoming Wonder Man series, explained what happens with his character, Trevor Slattery. After escaping both the real Mandarin and the events surrounding Shang-Chi, Slattery returns to Hollywood hoping to revive his acting career and finally earn the approval of his supportive mother, Dorothy. Kingsley shared that a series of unexpected events put Slattery in a position where he’s both celebrated and compromised, finding himself pulled in conflicting directions.

The celebrated actor shared that the upcoming series Wonder Man will explore a crucial time in Trevor’s life: how he first connected with Aldrich Killian and the A.I.M. organization, and what motivated him to create the Mandarin character. He described the show as a four-episode biographical story, detailing Trevor’s life both before and after taking on the role of the Mandarin.

This discovery just raises another question: will Guy Pearce reprise his role as Aldrich Killian in the upcoming Wonder Man project?

Wonder Man will premiere on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
