As a longtime *South Park* fan, Season 15 felt pretty uneven. We got some really great episodes like “HumancentiPad,” “City Sushi,” and “You’re Getting Old,” but honestly, a lot of them were super controversial and just didn’t land for me – “Funnybot,” “Royal Pudding,” and “Crack Baby Athletic Association” come to mind. “The Last of the Meheecans” was one of those divisive ones, though it *did* have Butters in a main storyline, and episodes are usually better when he’s featured. But the biggest thing about that episode? It’s really important…if you happen to be a *Monty Python* fan!
This particular episode hasn’t aired in one specific region. The key detail relates to a scene from *Monty Python’s Life of Brian*. Let’s take a closer look at both of these points.
What Is “The Last of the Meheecans” About?

“The Last of the Meheecans” is part of a recurring theme in the series dealing with illegal immigration, similar to the episode “Goobacks” from seven years earlier. The episode centers around a game the boys play, resembling Cops and Robbers, but focused on immigration. They call it “Texans vs. Mexicans,” with half the boys acting as Mexicans trying to cross into the U.S., and the other half playing the role of Border Patrol agents trying to stop them. The “Mexicans” have a limited time to cross a wall they’ve built, and if they don’t succeed, the “Border Patrol” wins.
The game is still ongoing because Butters is missing. He’s wandered off and gotten lost. Unbeknownst to his friends, Butters was hit by a car on his way back, and the drivers, mistakenly believing he’s Mexican, have taken him in and are making him work as their free housekeeper.
Butters’ new parents – who mostly want him to do chores like vacuuming and yard work – started calling him Mantequilla, the Spanish word for “butter.” After he runs away, this nickname unexpectedly leads to him being seen as a savior by others.
Why Was “The Last of the Meheecans” Banned in Mexico?

This episode, titled “The Last of the Meheecans” (a humorous reference to *The Last of the Mohicans*), mainly focuses on Butters – or, rather, Mantequilla.
Every South Park episode with a main storyline (A plot) also has a secondary one (B plot), and this particular B plot focused on Cartman. It was this subplot that caused the episode to be banned from broadcast in Mexico and Latin America. The issue stemmed from a scene where Cartman, pretending to be a Border Patrol agent, spots a group of people approaching the border. He then turns on a water truck and throws a taser into the resulting puddle, seemingly electrocuting the group.
How Does “The Last of the Meheecans” Reference Monty Python’s Life of Brian?

The “Last of the Meheecans” episode directly copies a scene from the movie *Monty Python’s Life of Brian*. In the episode, Butters wakes up feeling groggy and walks toward some curtains. When he pulls them open, he’s met by a large crowd of people, mirroring a similar moment when the main character in *Life of Brian* reveals himself to a crowd.
There’s a more nuanced connection too. In a *South Park* episode, Butters is confused by all the attention he’s receiving and discovers that simply raising his hands makes his followers cheer even louder. This mirrors a scene in *Life of Brian*, where Brian tells the crowd they don’t need to follow anyone – ironically, while they all repeat this message in perfect unison. Both Butters and Brian are bewildered by why people are starting to treat them like a savior.
The episode also includes a couple of nods to other films. When Randy Marsh runs outside and sees his lawn covered in leaves, his shout of “No!” sounds a lot like Darth Vader’s famous cry in *Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith*. Plus, the storyline about Mexican workers leaving the US and returning to Mexico has been interpreted as a reference to the 2004 film *A Day Without A Mexican*, which wasn’t well-received by critics.
