15 Biggest Games Launching in August 2025

Once more, we’ve reached the season where video game launches accelerate at a rapid pace. Though the most significant titles are yet to drop, August 2025 is brimming with sequels, remakes that fans have been eagerly waiting for, exclusive releases making their way onto other platforms, revivals of classic franchises, and an anime adaptation (it’s not the one you might be expecting). Here are fifteen exciting new games scheduled to debut in August 2025.

Mafia: The Old Country

Approximately nine years since the release of “Mafia 3”, Hangar 13 is revisiting, at least in terms of timeline, with “Mafia: The Old Country”. This game is set in Sicily during the 1900s, where players assume the role of Enzo Favara, who evolves from an indentured laborer to a member of the Torrisi family mafia. Instead of sprawling cities, you’ll find yourself navigating quaint countrysides and ruins. In contrast to its predecessors, Enzo will engage in as many knife duels as gun fights. With a more linear narrative structure, “Mafia: The Old Country” could be the rejuvenation that the series needs when it launches on August 8th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

Echoes of the End

Four years ago, it was announced that the game Echoes of the End will be released on August 12th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. In this game, you’ll play as Ryn, teaming up with Abram Finlay to delve into the fantastical world of Aema and thwart a nefarious plot. The game offers an engaging blend of magic, exploration, puzzle-solving, platforming, and combat, ensuring a fresh yet familiar experience by Myrkur Games.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 (PS5)

First introduced on both PS4 (and PC) quite some time ago, Senua makes her comeback with her next journey entitled “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2“. This exhilarating experience is set to release on August 12th exclusively for the PS5. While “adventure” might be a bit of an understatement, as she embarks on a treacherous journey to Iceland where she encounters Northmen, draugar, and other terrifying entities, all while battling her own psychosis, it’s certainly an engaging experience. With stunning graphics, cinematic storytelling, and a new update that offers 60 FPS gameplay, PS5 gamers may find this worth their time.

Madden NFL 26

Once again, Madden NFL has returned, and it’s not just about personal preference. In fact, Madden NFL 26 introduces some new elements, such as the Sphere of Influence system within Career Mode, various coach types for Franchise mode, extreme weather conditions that impact gameplay, and an updated presentation. This latest installment will be available on August 14th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Drag x Drive

Frankly, I’m puzzled by Nintendo’s approach to Drag x Drive. Despite its innovative idea and the intricate use of mouse controls on the Switch 2, their marketing strategy has been rather elusive. However, there’s a glimmer of optimism that the game itself might offer more than its trailers suggest (which looked promising, if not entirely revealing). We’ll discover the truth when it releases on August 14th for $19.99.

Black Myth: Wukong (Xbox Series X/S)

Approximately a year following its debut on PS5 and PC (without any timed exclusive contract), the game “Black Myth: Wukong” is set to release on August 20th for Xbox Series X/S. In its initial month, it sold over 20 million copies and received Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam, and now, Xbox players can experience the legend directly. If you’re searching for an engaging action-adventure game with thrilling boss battles, stunning visuals, and a distinctive art style, “Wukong” is definitely worth the trip.

Gears of War: Reloaded

For Xbox enthusiasts, it’s another farewell to an era as the game “Gears of War: Reloaded” makes its debut on PlayStation for the first time, marking a significant shift. If you’ve previously played this cover-based shooter and are intrigued, there are several compelling reasons to revisit it. These include enhanced multiplayer features such as 4K and 120 FPS support, elimination of loading screens during the campaign, and improved visual elements like shadows and reflections. The cherry on top? It’s completely free for those who own the “Ultimate Edition” on Xbox and PC!

Helldivers 2 (Xbox Series X/S)

The acclaimed cooperative shooter game from Arrowhead Game Studios, titled “Helldivers 2“, is set to drop onto the Xbox Series X/S on August 26th. This action-packed title will introduce a fresh wave of players to its alien-fighting escapades, complete with bug squashing, Automaton demolishing, and Illuminate combat. A standout feature is crossplay, which should further boost the existing player base. Fans are eagerly anticipating potential crossovers with popular franchises like Halo. Regardless of these collaborations, “Helldivers 2” is a definite must-play for Xbox gamers.

Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening

In the vast world of anime adaptations, it might come as a surprise that a side-scrolling platformer like Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening was made based on 1982’s Space Cobra. This game brings back the legendary character, Cobra, embarking on another journey across various planets to save the universe. Armed with the Psychogun, you will not only fight enemies but also navigate platforms and dodge traps, either solo or in a two-player co-op mode. If you’re looking for a fresh action platformer or an authentic representation of the anime’s first 12 episodes, Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening is set to release on August 26th for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World

After so many years, “Kirby and the Forgotten Land” continues to shine as an exceptional 3D platformer. The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Edition promises improved graphics and a new area called “Star-Crossed World“, where a strange meteor has reshaped numerous levels. This expansion introduces novel paths, enemies, Mouthful Modes, and a challenging Wild Mode for increased difficulty. Whether spending $80 is a good idea might be debatable, but if you already own the original game, the $20 upgrade could be worth considering when the Switch 2 version becomes available on August 28th.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

A timeless series that’s making a comeback after nearly a decade (skipping 2018), and this time it’s none other than Konami’s most renowned Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. This action-adventure game is set to release on August 28th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The original storyline remains intact, but with Konami’s collaboration with Virtuos, it now includes a new third-person perspective and enhancements to the user experience. For those who prefer the original control scheme and camera angle, that option is still available.

Lost Soul Aside

There are games that have been under development for quite some time, and then there’s Lost Soul Aside, which drew inspiration from Final Fantasy 15 when it was known as Versus 13. Despite multiple setbacks – including one this year – it is finally set to release on August 29th for PS5 and PC. The game stands out with its artistic direction, storyline, but what truly remains impressive is the combat system that has managed to stay robust throughout the development period. For individuals looking for a more character-focused action title, Lost Soul Aside might just be the solution.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance

Art of Vengeance” harks back to the intense side-scrolling action of old games, while boasting a stunning 2D visual design thanks to Lizardcube. With its combo-focused gameplay, impressive Ninja Arts, intricate settings, and smooth movement, it offers an exceptional reboot. The game is set to launch on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on August 29th.

The Rogue Prince of Persia

Over the past year since “The Rogue Prince of Persia” entered early access, you might find it difficult to recognize. It has undergone a significant change in art style and added a great deal of new content. The core concept – the Prince being trapped in a time loop as he continually tries to save his kingdom – remains the same. However, there are now more levels, weapons, branching paths, and bosses to explore. The upcoming version 1.0, slated for release in August, aims to wrap it all up. Fingers crossed that it surpasses the quality of Evil Empire’s previous work on “Dead Cells”.

Sword of the Sea

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the creators of the enchanting games ABZU and The Pathless are unveiling another immersive journey titled Sword of the Sea. In this game, you, as the Wraith, embark on a soulful quest to revitalize an eerie underwater Necropolis. Your trusty Hoversword not only serves as your mode of transportation but also transforms into a surfboard, allowing for exhilarating rides, grinding, and snowboarding experiences, all while immersed in breathtaking landscapes (and ambiance). Sword of the Sea is set to debut on August 19th for PS5 and PC systems.
