15 Years Later, Netflix Finally Adds This Forgotten Shonen Jump Classic

The Spring 2026 anime season is just around the corner, and Netflix is preparing to add a fresh batch of anime series to its library each month. Unlike Crunchyroll, which typically offers a wide variety of new, ongoing shows, Netflix often features exclusive original anime or brings back popular older titles. Lately, Netflix has been increasing its involvement in new anime series and films, reflecting the rapid growth of the anime industry. As a major streaming service, Netflix already has a fantastic selection of anime available, and that selection is growing all the time. This March promises some exciting surprises for anime fans, including the arrival of one of the most popular anime series ever.

I’m so hyped! If you’re into awesome shonen anime like me, you definitely need to know that Toriko is coming to Netflix on March 15th, 2026! This series, created by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro and originally published in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2008, got an anime adaptation by Toei Animation in 2011, and it’s been a favorite ever since—with movies and even cool crossovers! It’s already streaming on Crunchyroll and Hulu here in the US, but getting it on Netflix will hopefully introduce Toriko to a whole new wave of shonen fans. I can’t wait!

What Is Toriko About?

The anime’s first episode features a special team-up with One Piece, which explains why the story doesn’t immediately continue in Episode 2. The series has collaborated with One Piece before – in Episode 51 – and even brought in Dragon Ball for a collaboration in Episode 99. After its successful launch on Netflix, another One Piece crossover is planned for April, though the specific release date is still to come. Toriko is known for its creative story, silly humor, and endearing characters.

This story centers around thrilling adventures involving the hunt for and preparation of incredible food, all set in a vividly imagined world with its own special rules and abilities. The world has entered a ‘Gourmet Age,’ where people – especially chefs – are constantly searching for the most delicious and rare ingredients. These ingredients can be found in extreme locations, like inside volcanoes! Gourmet Hunters are the brave individuals who venture into dangerous territories to find them. Toriko is a particularly skilled and well-known Gourmet Hunter, famous for having discovered 2% of all known ingredients.

Everyone knows him as a legendary Gourmet Hunter, but he’s still chasing his ultimate goal. The story follows his adventure with Komatsu, a talented chef from a top hotel, as they work together to create the perfect, life-affirming meal. It won’t be easy, though – they’ll face dangerous monsters, ruthless groups, and even the challenges presented by the food itself along the way.
