16 Years Later, Acclaimed Shojo Series Confirms Finale Release Date

Please be aware that this article contains spoilers for the Yona of the Dawn manga. Kusanagi Mizuho’s historical fantasy series, Yona of the Dawn, began in 2009 and was adapted into an anime in 2014. Although Studio Pierrot never released a second season of the anime, the series gained a large and dedicated fanbase who have continued to follow the manga. The manga entered its final story arc last year, with Yona and Hak returning to Hiryuu Castle accompanied by Yoon and the Four Dragon Warriors. The manga creator recently announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the series will officially end on December 19th, 2025. Chapter 274 will be released on November 3rd, 2025, and the manga will conclude with Chapter 276.

The announcement of the manga’s ending came as a surprise to many fans, who thought it would continue into next year given the number of unresolved plot points. The story still had questions that needed answers, making the release date unexpected. However, the author, Mizuho, explained that she waited to announce the finale until she knew exactly when the story would end. She also thanked the magazine Hana to Yume for allowing her to work at her own speed. Earlier this year, Yona of the Dawn paused for three months to prepare for the ending. When it returned in October with Chapter 272, fans were disappointed to see Yona and her friends still struggling against the Dragon Gods.

What to Expect From Yona of the Dawn Finale?

I found myself witnessing a strange scene – Hak had woken up in a place that felt like the boundary between life and death. It turns out he had died after going into the chalice, but his mind was still active. He was determined to hold on, driven by the promise he made to Yona. There, he encountered the spirit of the White Dragon God and, shockingly, saw an unconscious Soo-won, who was dangerously close to death himself. But the Dragon God wasn’t inclined to help Soo-won; apparently, stabbing the Crimson Dragon’s body was a serious offense, even if Soo-won had good intentions trying to protect Yona and the others.

Hak carries Soo-won, attempting to bring him back to life. Just as the chapter closes, the White Dragon God has a change of heart and offers his assistance. Hak and the Dragon God then work together to shield Jee-Ha and the others from a collapsing building, but many mysteries remain. With the Dragon Gods’ power gone, the Warriors have lost their abilities and the source of their strength. Though everyone is hurt, Zeno is in the worst shape, as his body is severely distorted and swelling up in an unusual way.

Whether he’ll ever fully recover is also unknown, as he’s only survived for over a thousand years thanks to the Yellow Dragon God’s power. The story also needs to reveal the meaning of the sword and shield mentioned in the prophecy, which are supposed to appear once all four Dragon Warriors are united. As the manga nears its end, we’ll probably get these answers before Yona and her companions each begin their own journeys.
