Netflix has a popular Western series that’s gaining renewed attention thanks to a recent update, though it’s distinct from the hit show Yellowstone. Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s work has sparked a resurgence in Westerns on television and in film. Even with the original series concluded, the Yellowstone universe is expanding with new spinoffs and sequels.
Although the Yellowstone franchise is a major player in the Western genre and continues to be popular, it’s not the only Western finding success these days. Netflix has released several Western shows recently, including hits like American Primeval and Ransom Canyon, and now another Western series is climbing its viewership charts.
Netflix reports that Heartland is now the 10th most popular show in the U.S. This jump in viewers happened after season 18 became available on February 1st. Currently, the top five shows on Netflix nationwide are Bridgerton, The Lincoln Lawyer, Is It Cake? Valentines, HIS & HERS, and Alone.
While the popular series Heartland isn’t currently featured in Netflix’s global top 10, another Canadian drama, Sullivan’s Crossing, is doing well. It’s currently the 6th most-watched show worldwide, ahead of only five other titles: Bridgerton, The Lincoln Lawyer, HIS & HERS, Is It Cake? Valentines, and Animal Kingdom.
Heartland is a Western series that has been on television since October 14, 2007. This Canadian family drama offers a different take on the Western genre compared to shows like Yellowstone. While Yellowstone and its related series are known for being intense and dramatic, Heartland provides a heartwarming and comforting viewing experience—a nice change of pace.
Over its many seasons, the Western series Heartland has featured a number of well-known actors, including Michelle Morgan, Stephen Amell, Tatiana Maslany, Jessica Steen, and Greta Onieogou, among others. The show centers around Amber Marshall as Amy Fleming and follows the Fleming family as they navigate the challenges of life on their ranch and strengthen their family bonds.
Though season 18 of Heartland is currently popular on Netflix in the US, the show is much further along in Canada. Season 19 premiered there on October 5, 2025, and finished on December 7, 2025, with its tenth episode. As of now, there’s no news about season 20.
