The recent ‘Age of Revelation’ storyline has featured several well-known heroes meeting their end, which is typical for big Marvel events set in the future. Surprisingly, two legendary X-Men, not usually portrayed as self-sacrificing heroes, made the ultimate sacrifice to save the world.
Okay, so issue #3 of Undeadpool really threw me for a loop! Tim Seeley and Carlos Magno are delivering a wild ride with Deadpool trying to get these aspiring X-Men away from the clutches of Revelation. But things get seriously complicated when Wade Wilson himself gets turned into a zombie by the X-Virus. And it’s not just a physical change – without a steady supply of mutant… well, meat, he starts losing his mind. It’s a genuinely disturbing and fascinating take on the character, and it’s making this series a must-read.
Even so, Wade attempted to shield the young Mutants from Cable, who was being overtaken by his techno-organic virus. Unfortunately, he wasn’t very successful; only Fearless made it through the journey to find the Expatriate X-Men. Wade managed to get Fearless to safety with them before Cable finally overtook him and he lost control.
What X-Men heroes die in Undeadpool #3?
Wade was surprised to see Cable acting like his old self again. Their ally, Fearless, had been keeping a secret about her powers. Besides being able to ‘see’ through telepathy, she could also amplify the abilities of other mutants. She’d unintentionally used this power on Cable, which allowed his telekinesis to fight off the virus. Sadly, the furious Deadpool still managed to break through Cable’s protective forcefield and fatally bite him.
As he was dying, Cable apologized to Deadpool for all the harsh things he’d said. He admitted that despite Deadpool’s joking and seeming greed, he knew Deadpool was a good person at heart. This confession struck zombie Deadpool deeply, and he was devastated to realize he’d killed one of his few friends when he briefly regained his senses.
Deadpool found Fearless while she was torturing the Expatriate X-Men, hoping to impress Revelation and become one of his followers. When Deadpool intervened, she unexpectedly boosted his healing abilities, effectively curing him of the X-Virus. She proposed a deal: she’d leave him alone if he allowed her to complete her task and rejoin Revelation.
It was shocking, but Deadpool just… took out Fearless, instantly breaking her hold over the Expatriate X-Men. It was a huge sacrifice, though. Turns out, the thing keeping his healing factor going was also connected to the cancer that plagued him, and taking out Fearless sped that up. He died a really tough death, but honestly, he seemed at peace. He knew he’d saved the remaining X-Men, and that’s all that mattered to him.
