2 Sisters Found Alive in California 36 Years After Reported Missing

The identities of two California women has ended a 36-year mystery.

In August, officials located Jasmin Ramos, age 37, and Elizabeth Ramos, age 36, living under assumed identities in their home state of California, 36 years after they disappeared. DNA testing confirmed the women’s identities. They had been raised by foster parents who didn’t know the sisters were missing.

The birth mother of the sisters, Marina Ramos, was found dead in 1989 in the Arizona desert. She wasn’t identified at the time and was known as a Jane Doe, but in 2022, authorities used fingerprinting to learn who she was. Once Marina Ramos’s identity was confirmed, investigators started looking for her daughters-who were only 14 months and 1 month old when their mother was killed-by using DNA from Ramos’s family.

Three years later, they got a match.

According to a Facebook post on September 22nd, the Mohave County Sheriff Office stated that investigators found a woman on August 27, 2025, who had a strong DNA link to someone in the Ramos family. A forensic genetic genealogist determined there was a very high chance this woman was one of the girls who had been reported missing.

Following contact with Jasmin and Elizabeth, investigators learned the girls were left in a public restroom in Oxnard, California on December 14, 1989. This happened two days after authorities discovered their mother’s body in Arizona, where she had suffered multiple stab wounds.

According to a Facebook statement from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, a passerby heard children crying inside the women’s restroom. The witness asked a woman to investigate, and she discovered the girls lying on the wet floor without any adults present.

Police responded quickly, and Child Protective Services took the babies into their care before finding them foster homes. The Mohave County Sheriff Office reported that they were soon adopted and grew up together in a nurturing environment.

With Jasmin and Elizabeth now located, officials are still working to find the person who killed their mother. They’ve identified three people of interest-one woman and two men-who were reportedly seen with the girls at the California park where they were discovered in 1989.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff Office’s post, the woman is a Hispanic female who was wearing a long red skirt and white boots. The two men were simply described as Hispanic.
