2 Years Later, A Forgotten Comedy Flop is Officially a Netflix Hit with Millions of Views

I’m so glad to see *KPop Demon Hunters* is still dominating on Netflix! It’s amazing how a movie can find its audience through streaming, and it’s currently number one in both the U.S. and around the world, with over 30 million hours viewed. It’s great company with other popular titles like *Ruth & Boaz*, *Karate Kid: Legends*, and even *Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance*. And honestly, it’s awesome to see a 2023 comedy that didn’t do well in theaters become a surprise hit on Netflix – proof that streaming really gives movies a second chance!

I have to say, I’m really enjoying *About My Father*! It’s a funny movie from 2023, directed by Laura Terrusso, and it’s inspired by the real life and family of Sebastian Maniscalco, who also stars in it alongside Robert De Niro. It didn’t do so well in theaters when it first came out, but it’s found a whole new audience now that it’s on Netflix. Actually, Netflix just shared their top 10 movie list, and *About My Father* did incredibly well – over 3.2 million hours were streamed and it got 2.1 million views in just one week! That made it the ninth most popular movie worldwide and the fifth most popular in the U.S. – pretty impressive for a film that initially flopped!

About My Father Is Finally Getting the Attention It Deserves

The recent success of *About My Father* on Netflix is unexpected, considering its initial performance. The movie didn’t do well in theaters, earning only $18.2 million with a $26 million budget, and critics weren’t impressed – it currently has a 37% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, its popularity on Netflix is well-deserved. *About My Father* is now being streamed more than several other popular films, placing it in the top 10 alongside titles like *10 Things I Hate About You*, *Alice*, *Sweet Home Alabama*, *Idiocracy*, and *Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance*.

This feel-good comedy is lighthearted and enjoyable, telling a sweet story about a father and son navigating their different perspectives. Robert De Niro and Sebastian Maniscalco have fantastic chemistry, making the movie worth watching on its own. They convincingly play a proud, hardworking immigrant father and his somewhat manipulative son, and their believable relationship is what truly makes the film work, even when the plot isn’t as strong. Their playful arguments and interactions are consistently funny, as they bounce off each other’s energy and comedic timing.

While *About My Father* follows a familiar storyline, it’s a genuinely heartwarming and funny movie, making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Its popularity on Netflix is definitely deserved.
