Even though September was incredibly busy, October promises to be even bigger and better. We’re expecting huge open-world games, the continuation of several popular series, a brand new extraction shooter that could challenge the leading titles, and a lot more. Plus, there’s a great selection of horror games coming out just in time for Halloween! Here are the 20 most anticipated games launching in October 2025, without further delay.
Ghost of Yōtei
Without a doubt the most anticipated game this month, and a strong contender for Game of the Year – which is what we hoped for. Sucker Punch Productions once again demonstrates their talent for crafting immersive open worlds, as Atsu travels across Ezo seeking vengeance against the Yōtei Six. This installment offers greater diversity and reduces repetitive gameplay, and the combat system has been improved with new weapons and mechanics, such as disarming opponents (and even throwing weapons at them!). You’ll even get occasional assistance from a wolf. In a year where Sony is really counting on exclusive PS5 titles, Ghost of Yōtei appears to be a fantastic demonstration of what the console can do when it releases on October 2nd.
Battlefield 6
Around four years ago, the Battlefield series hit a rough patch, and many doubted it could bounce back. Now, we have Battlefield 6, a collaborative project from DICE, Ripple Effect, Criterion, and Motive Studio, which has the potential to be a huge success. The return of a large-scale, worldwide campaign is a great start, but the multiplayer-with its Classes, satisfying weapon handling, and realistic feel-is also incredibly promising. Even the Portal mode and the new Battle Royale look impressive. Battlefield 6 launches on October 10th and will be playable on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Game Freak’s newest Pokémon game is the first in the series to appear on the Nintendo Switch 2, alongside the original Switch. What makes it even more unique is that the entire game takes place within a single city. As a new trainer in Lumiose City, you’ll be tasked with looking into a strange occurrence: Rogue Mega-Evolved Pokémon having their wishes fulfilled in the Z-A Royale. With the addition of new Pokémon and Mega Evolutions, a competitive mode called Battle Club where anything goes, and plenty more, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is looking very promising. It will be released on October 16th for both Switch 1 and 2.
The Outer Worlds 2
Despite offering a more expansive and detailed experience than the first game – with revamped Skills and Flaws, larger planets, and a third-person view – The Outer Worlds 2 seems to be flying under the radar as October approaches. Perhaps it’s because so many other highly anticipated sequels are coming out around the same time, but the new, more mature story (which still has moments of dark humor) looks promising, and it appears to allow for a wide variety of unique gameplay approaches. Whether you prefer to play as part of a team or as a lone wolf who eliminates every character, The Outer Worlds 2 could be the perfect role-playing game for you when it releases on October 29th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger
It’s been seven years since Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory, and I’m finally getting my hands on the newest Digimon Story game, Time Stranger! It’s launching on October 3rd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and honestly, this game was announced way back in December 2017. The story is completely new, and it involves a lot of time travel. Basically, something big happens that changes everything, and I, as part of a secret organization, have to go back in time and try to fix it. There are over 450 Digimon to collect, which is awesome, and I’ll be exploring Illiad in the Digimon World, trying to figure out what’s really going on. I’m just hoping it won’t get lost in the hype around Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but I’m excited to find out in the next few days if it can really stand on its own.
Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Mario Galaxy is back, and it’s great that it’s not a temporary release! Now, Nintendo Switch players can buy each game for $39.99 individually, or get both in a bundle for $69.99. If you own a Switch 2, you can enjoy both games in 4K with a free update, and there are also some new additions like extra Storybook Chapters, amiibo compatibility, and Assist Mode. While these aren’t full remasters, they’re more like updated re-releases, and if you’ve always wanted to play two of the greatest 3D platformers of all time, they’re worth looking into when they launch on October 2nd.
ARC Raiders
Honestly, it feels like ARC Raiders has a tough battle ahead of it, launching right when so many other huge games are coming out! It’s stuck between Battlefield this month and Call of Duty next month. But, all the early reactions have shown me that it might actually be able to stand out. It’s launching with four different maps, each with unique challenges and tough enemies. This extraction shooter really delivers Embark’s signature smooth gunplay, and it’s all wrapped up in a really cool, distinct post-apocalyptic world. There’s so much to do – mastering skills, completing quests, climbing the leaderboards, and even just figuring out the story – ARC Raiders seems to offer a ton, and I’m really excited to jump in when it releases on October 30th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
Little Nightmares 3
Big survival horror games are already available, but fans still have Little Nightmares 3 to anticipate before Halloween. The game is set in a place called The Spiral, and tells the story of Low and Alone as they try to escape its frightening environment. They’ll face huge monsters, living puppets, and other scary things, making their journey very difficult. Luckily, each character has special items – like arrows and a wrench – to help them solve puzzles and protect themselves. Although you can’t play together on the same couch, a Friends Pass lets another player join the game even if they don’t own it. Get ready to share the fear when Little Nightmares 3 comes out on October 10th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
Keeper
It’s always a surprise what Double Fine Productions will create, and Keeper, releasing on October 17th for Xbox Series X/S and PC, is especially original. You play as a living lighthouse that travels the world to discover its meaning. With encounters with bizarre creatures in a story told without words, and its mind-bending graphics, it’s looking like a truly one-of-a-kind adventure.
Jurassic World Evolution 3
You generally know what to expect from a management sim by Frontier Developments, and Jurassic Park Evolution 3 continues that trend. It features the familiar campaign, sandbox, and challenge modes, but expands on them with over 80 different species – each with variations like young dinosaurs. There are also more detailed tools for creating your park, along with new attractions. Combined with fresh locations, there’s a lot to be excited about when it releases on October 21st for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
Ninja Gaiden 4
A top-tier action-adventure game known for its intense hack-and-slash combat, Ninja Gaiden, is getting a brand new installment on October 21st for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Ninja Gaiden 4 puts you in the role of Yakumo from the Raven Clan, who travels to the ruins of Tokyo to defeat the Dark Dragon. However, The Order and the series’ long-time hero, Ryu Hayabusa (also a playable character), won’t let him do it easily, leading to brutal fights. Yakumo has a variety of weapons at his disposal, as well as the Bloodraven Form, which changes his attacks and allows him to perform Bloodbath Kills – devastating moves that can take out multiple enemies at once. With an easy-to-learn Hero Mode and a very difficult Master Ninja mode, Ninja Gaiden 4 has the potential to be the best game in the series so far.
Kingmakers
Imagine sending today’s soldiers back to fight in massive medieval battles with hundreds of troops-that’s Kingmakers! This PC game, launching October 8th, blends third-person shooting with detailed military gear and the ability to build and manage a base. Between battles, you can switch to a top-down view to command your forces. With all of this, plus co-op play for up to four players, it promises a chaotic, yet enjoyable, experience.
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault
A determined merchant is unstoppable, and Will is no exception – he even goes into dungeons to gather goods himself! Moonlighter 2 picks up right where the first game left off. You’ll explore The Endless Vault, finding valuable artifacts to sell in your shop. The money you earn can be used to improve the town of Tresna, upgrade your store, and get better equipment for even more rewarding dungeon dives. The game now features full 3D graphics and new gameplay elements – you can even use your backpack as a weapon! There’s a lot to be excited about when Moonlighter 2 launches on Steam Early Access on October 23rd.
Double Dragon Revive
The beloved side-scrolling beat ’em up series is back thanks to Arc System Works and Yuke’s with the release of Double Dragon Revive on October 23rd for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. The game features a Story Mode for up to four players, as well as an Extra Mode boasting over 50 different mission types and a standalone story told through unlockable episodes. Considering this and Absolum, it’s shaping up to be an excellent month for fans of the beat ’em up genre.
Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted
Okay, so after the not-so-great launches of Battle for Neighborville and Plants vs. Zombies 3, PopCap is hitting the reset button. They’re basically going back to where it all began with Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted – it’s an HD refresh of the original tower defense game that got me hooked in the first place! And honestly, for $20, there’s a *ton* of stuff to keep you playing. They’ve added a seriously tough hardcore mode, but also a more relaxed Cloudy Day Mode if you just want to chill. Plus, you can even battle your friends locally as the zombies, or team up in co-op to defend your garden! Replanted is coming out on October 23rd for Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 1 and 2.
Tormented Souls 2
The original Tormented Souls wasn’t groundbreaking, but it was surprisingly decent for a game clearly inspired by classic Resident Evil titles. Tormented Souls 2, launching on October 23rd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, picks up Caroline’s story as she explores a new, unsettling location. The game features reality-shifting mechanics, puzzle-solving, and combat against fresh enemies. It maintains the classic tank controls and limited saves of older survival horror games, though an assist mode is available for those who want it.
Once Upon A Katamari
A brand new Katamari game that isn’t a remake? It’s true! Once Upon A Katamari will be available on October 24th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The Prince is asked to repair the sky *again* after The King of All Cosmos messes it up, and this time you’ll be traveling through time, collecting things from the Ice Age and other famous periods. Featuring character customization, new items, and a new four-player competitive mode called KatamariBall, fun times are definitely on the way.
Dispatch
What if Mecha Man lost his suit and couldn’t fight crime anymore? He’d find the next best thing: a job as a superhero dispatcher. But that’s just the beginning of Robert Robertson’s challenges. He now works with former supervillains, sending them on missions with unpredictable results. As you unlock new skills and deal with their complicated personalities, Dispatch offers a fresh blend of story-driven adventure and strategic hero management, all supported by a memorable group of characters. The first two episodes launch on October 22nd, with the next two arriving on October 29th for PS5 and PC. The final four episodes will be released in November.
Wreckreation
I was a little let down by Bugbear’s Wreckfest 2 (which has improved since its early access release), but Wreckreation, created by the developers of Dangerous Driving, might be what I was looking for. It launches on October 28th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and features a massive 400 square kilometer playground called MixWorld. You can freely build and destroy things in this world, either by yourself or with friends. Offering detailed customization options and lots to explore, it seems like a promising game, and I hope it remains popular for a long time.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection
Do you wish there was one complete set of all the original Mortal Kombat games? Even titles like Mythologies: Sub Zero and Special Forces? Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection might be what you’re looking for! It includes Mortal Kombat 1, 2, 3, 4, Trilogy and a lot more, with different versions of each game. You can play online using rollback netcode for smoother matches, and immediately unlock all hidden characters. The collection also lets you dive into the story and characters of the series, and features new interviews with the people who created the games. It’s launching on October 30th for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s likely to be a great purchase for any fan of fighting games.
