A Square Enix game originally released in 2012 is still turning heads among Xbox fans, especially on the Xbox Series X. Thanks to updates like FPS boost and HDR support – features exclusive to Xbox – many older games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 eras play better than ever. This makes the Xbox Series X the ideal platform for revisiting classic titles, including this one that’s over a decade old.
Xbox fans on Reddit are really impressed with how great Sleeping Dogs still looks on the Xbox Series X. It’s not only due to the improvements made in 2021, but also because the game was visually stunning when it originally came out in 2012 and has aged remarkably well – better than many other games from that era.
“Looks Great on Xbox Series X”
A popular post on the Xbox Reddit page this week celebrates how beautiful a certain game looks on the Xbox Series X. While one person’s opinion isn’t significant on its own, the post has received a lot of upvotes and comments, showing that many players feel the same way. The most popular comment simply calls it a “fantastic game.”

One commenter praised the game, saying it continues to deserve recognition even now, and that a sequel would be welcome. Others highlighted how the game showcases the strengths of the Xbox Series X, specifically mentioning features like FPS boost, Auto HDR, and Quick Resume as reasons why it’s a top-tier console.
About the Game
If you haven’t played Sleeping Dogs before, it came out in 2012 and was made by United Front Games, a studio that sadly doesn’t exist anymore. Here’s a little-known fact: it actually started as a new True Crime game under Activision. But Activision cancelled it, and that’s when Square Enix stepped in and took over. That’s when it transformed from a True Crime sequel into the Sleeping Dogs we know and love. Even though it’s a different game now, you can still feel that True Crime spirit in its gameplay.
The first game from Square Enix received a score of 83 on Metacritic and sold around two million copies, which was enough to warrant a sequel. However, that sequel, planned as a multiplayer spin-off called Triad Wars, was eventually cancelled. The series hasn’t seen a new release since, leaving its dedicated fans disappointed.
I get to play as Wei Shen, a really skilled undercover cop, and my mission is to infiltrate the Hong Kong Triads and bring them down from within. It’s awesome!
Currently, there aren’t any new video game projects related to Sleeping Dogs, but a movie starring Simu Liu is being made. If the movie does well, it could open the door for a sequel or remake of the game – though there’s been no official confirmation of such plans, or even any unofficial hints.
