A game that originally launched on Nintendo in 2021 is now available to PlayStation Plus subscribers. How? Capcom brought the game to PlayStation 4 in 2024, after it had been exclusive to Nintendo for several years. Now, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members can play it for free. It’s not included with the basic PlayStation Plus Essential plan.
For a limited time, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members on both PS5 and PS4 can download Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin at no extra cost. The original Monster Hunter Stories, released in 2016 and recently added to PS4 in 2024, is also available for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. Both games are included in the February 2026 PlayStation Plus lineup. While neither title was originally made for PS5, you can still play them on the console thanks to backward compatibility.
Two Capcom Games Free for a Limited Time
If you haven’t played these Capcom games before, the first one originally came out in 2016 and was only available on the Nintendo 3DS. It stayed exclusive to that console until 2024. Created in partnership with Marvelous, it’s a role-playing game and a different take on the Monster Hunter series. Instead of playing as a hunter, you take on the role of a Rider. When it was released, the 3DS game received a score of 79 on Metacritic.
Few expected a second game, but five years after the original, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin was released in 2021. It received a score of 81 on Metacritic, a bit higher than the first game. While a third installment hasn’t been announced, the sequel sold 1.5 million copies within its first year, suggesting another game is likely, especially given the series’ presumably low production costs. You can find a trailer for both games below, released when they were bundled together for Xbox One.
We don’t know exactly how long these games will be available with PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium. However, based on past trends, Capcom games usually stay on the service for about a year before being removed. This suggests these games might be taken off in February 2027. Sometimes, PlayStation Plus games stay for two years, which would mean they could remain available until February 2028. Either way, you have plenty of time to enjoy them, especially compared to six other games that are leaving soon.
