As a huge horror fan, I was totally blown away by Talk to Me at Sundance, and I immediately thought it had franchise potential. What really grabbed me was the unique idea – this hand that lets you connect with spirits for an intense experience. It felt like there were so many stories you could tell within that world. Now, it looks like we’re finally getting more! A sequel is happening, but it’s not going to be a direct continuation of the first film – it’s a series, which is a really interesting direction to take things.
Meta and XRTV are partnering to create a six-episode series called Talk to Me (the official title is still to be announced). The show follows a group of young people traveling through Europe in search of the perfect party, but they stumble upon a dangerous supernatural force called the Hand – something far more addictive and deadly than any drug. Described as similar to the show Euphoria, but with a supernatural twist, the series is unique because it will be made exclusively for Meta headsets and filmed entirely in 3D. Both Meta and the creators hope to deliver a thrilling and groundbreaking new entertainment experience.
According to Variety, the upcoming live-action series will use advanced mixed reality technology to create a more immersive experience for viewers, adapting to their surroundings. While Danny and Michael Phillippou, the directors of the original film, will executive produce, the idea for the series came from Darren Brandl (known for The Girl in the Woods) and Treng Atherton (who worked on The Wheel). The series will consist of six episodes, all written by Atherton and directed by Craig William Macneill.

A24
In addition to a new series exclusive to Meta, a sequel to the hit horror film Talk to Me is officially in the works, and the directing duo behind the original, the Phillippous, are likely to return. The first film caused a frenzy at the Sundance Film Festival, with A24 ultimately acquiring and releasing it in 2022. It became A24’s most financially successful horror movie. The Phillippous have continued their partnership with A24, with their next film, Bring Her Back, starring Sally Hawkins, scheduled for release in 2025.
Darren Brandl, co-founder of XRTV, explained that the film Talk to Me is ideal for immersive experiences. The story centers on young people who intentionally seek possession by a spirit, initially for the thrill of it, but ultimately face terrifying consequences. Brandl aims to use Meta’s technology to make viewers feel like they are being possessed. He believes virtual reality offers a fantastic way to tell new stories, and it will be fascinating to see if the VR experience can deliver truly frightening moments and attract a large audience on Meta headsets within the Talk to Me world.
