2022’s Best Horror Movie is Getting A Spinoff (But Not How You Might Think)

The 2022 Australian horror film Talk to Me was a breakout success. Directed by first-time feature filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, the movie offered a new spin on the possession genre, following a group of teenagers and an unusual embalmed hand. It received excellent reviews and earned over $92 million globally on a budget of just $4.5 million, becoming A24’s most profitable horror film. The Philippou brothers followed up with another well-received movie, Bring Her Back in 2025, which earned over $39 million worldwide. Although the creators have talked about making both a sequel and a prequel to Talk to Me, the franchise is now heading in an unexpected direction.

According to Variety, the world of the horror film Talk to Me is growing with a new six-episode TV series designed specifically for 3D headsets. Meta and XRTV are teaming up to produce the show, which will be filmed entirely in 3D and use mixed-reality technology to make it feel like the story is happening right in your living room. The idea, from XRTV’s Darren Brandl, is to use the immersive quality of virtual reality to create a truly unsettling experience, making viewers feel like the film’s demons are actually present with them.

Okay, so a Talk to Me series is officially happening, and I’m already intrigued! It’s going to follow a fresh group of young people – this time backpacking around Europe – who stumble upon that same cursed hand from the movie.
