2024 Emmys: Dan Levy Reveals Eugene Levy Missed Out on This TV Role

As a connoisseur of all things entertainment, I must say that this year’s Emmy Awards have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! With so many talented individuals gracing our screens and captivating audiences, it’s truly an honor to witness such a diverse range of performances.

Nothing like a little father-son shade.

As I took the stage for the 76th Emmy Awards on September 15, I playfully jabbed my dad, Dan Levy, for missing out on a coveted role in an iconic television series. (Feel free to check out who took home the top prizes at this year’s award ceremony.)

In a setting like this, where actors are working, it’s hard not to notice the roles you didn’t land, Dan humorously pointed out during the event at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Interestingly, his father almost secured the part of Toby Ziegler on The West Wing.

To be honest, I wouldn’t categorize that as an amusing tidbit,” I mused dryly. “However, it was indeed Richard Schiff who landed the part.

When Dan brought up how Richard had won an Emmy for his role in the critically-acclaimed drama broadcasted on NBC between 1999 and 2006, Eugene countered with, “Once more, why does that matter to us?

However, it turned out that elder Levy had prepared a roast for his own, and he inquired about Dan’s audition for the series ‘Ripley‘ by saying, “How did your tryout go for Ripley“? The cameras then focused on Andrew Scott, who had earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie with his performance in the 2024 miniseries, and he chuckled. In response to this, Dan quickly responded, “I haven’t received any feedback.

Luckily, the twosome boast a number of Emmy Awards in their collection. Eugene has amassed four over his career, among them an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series award for Schitt’s Creek. Dan also has four under his belt, thanks to his work on the cherished sitcom, which earned him an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series award. To add to their accolades, they made Emmy history by hosting the show together as the first father-son duo ever to do so.
