PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members can now play a 2024 PS5 game that was unexpectedly removed from the PlayStation Store this week, making it unavailable for purchase. While the game’s servers won’t shut down until 2027, meaning current owners can still play, new players can only access it through a PS Plus Extra or Premium subscription. It was added to those subscription libraries in July 2025, and although it’s unclear how long it will remain available on PlayStation Plus, most games are offered for around a year. For now, it’s exclusively playable with a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Recently, a game called New World: Aeternum was removed from sale on the PlayStation 5. This game, released in 2024 by Amazon Games, was an upgraded version of New World, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that first came out in 2021. New World was initially a hit, but only on PC. It wasn’t available on consoles until Aeternum was released, and by that point, the game had largely lost its player base.
First Time a PS Plus Game Has Been Delisted
It’s unclear what will happen next, as this situation is unprecedented. While games are often removed from the PlayStation Store, it’s never happened before that a game was taken down from the store while still available through PlayStation Plus. It’s possible the game will remain on PlayStation Plus until its originally scheduled removal date. Alternatively, it could be removed from PlayStation Plus as well, but there’s been no indication of that happening yet.
As of right now, Sony and Amazon haven’t shared any details about bringing the game New World to PlayStation Plus. We don’t anticipate them making an announcement soon, but we’ll let you know if that changes.
