2025 Biopic Becomes Major Streaming Hit on Disney+ & Hulu, 3 Months After $45M Box Office Failure

Movies about musicians’ lives often do well in theaters and during awards season. People generally enjoy seeing the stories of their favorite artists portrayed on screen, as evidenced by the success of films like Bohemian Rhapsody and A Complete Unknown, both of which earned significant money and critical praise. That’s why 20th Century Studios had high hopes for Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, a Bruce Springsteen biopic starring Jeremy Allen White. However, the film didn’t perform as well as expected in theaters and wasn’t nominated for any Oscars. Now, it’s gaining a second chance through streaming platforms.

The documentary Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere is currently very popular on streaming services. According to FlixPatrol, it’s the eighth most-watched movie on Disney+, ahead of films like Rio and Ralph Breaks the Internet. It’s even more popular on Hulu, where it’s the top-ranked movie in the U.S. this week.

Why Deliver Me from Nowhere Is a Streaming Hit After Low Box Office

20th Century Studios tried to position Deliver Me from Nowhere for awards consideration, debuting it at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival before releasing it in theaters that fall. While the film received generally positive, though mixed, reviews (scoring 61% on Rotten Tomatoes), it unfortunately came out during a particularly slow month for movie theaters, earning just $22.6 million domestically and $45.2 million worldwide. This poor performance ended any realistic chances of an Oscar win, although actor White did receive a Golden Globes nomination for his work in the film.

The film Deliver Me from Nowhere didn’t generate much excitement before its theatrical release, which made it a good fit for streaming. Nowadays, many people prefer to wait and watch new movies at home. Since it wasn’t expected to be a major award winner, most viewers felt no rush to see it in theaters and planned to stream it later. If the film had received widespread critical acclaim, it likely would have performed better in cinemas. Instead, because audiences weren’t sure if it was worth seeing on the big screen, it was easier to convince them to watch it at home.

Even though opinions are divided, Deliver Me from Nowhere is worth a watch. Like many music biopics, it really lets the actors shine, with both White and Jeremy Strong giving excellent performances. While White is the clear lead, Strong is equally impressive as Jon Landau, Springsteen’s manager and producer. The film focuses on the making of Springsteen’s album Nebraska, a particularly difficult and challenging time in his life. The relationship between Springsteen and Landau provides a strong emotional center that fans of his music will find engaging. Deliver Me from Nowhere doesn’t break new ground for the biopic genre, but the performances are still enjoyable.

While not a massive streaming success, the film Deliver Me from Nowhere (with a FlixPatrol score of 89) has still found an audience on home media, which is a positive for 20th Century Studios. It’s a smaller, more specialized film compared to something like Tron: Ares (currently No. 1 on Disney+ with a score of 399), which boasts impressive visuals and action. Everyone involved is hoping that director Jon Favreau’s next project, The Mandalorian and Grogu, will perform even better both in theaters and on streaming platforms.
