A game from Electronic Arts (EA) that came out last year is now available to download for free with a Nintendo Switch Online membership – you don’t need the extra Expansion Pack to get it. However, this offer is only for Nintendo Switch 2 owners, as the game isn’t compatible with older Nintendo consoles. Keep in mind that this free download won’t be available forever, so grab it while you can.
The free trial of Madden NFL 26 is only available until January 21st. After that, anyone with a Nintendo Switch 2 will need to buy the game from the Nintendo eShop to keep playing. The game normally costs $69.99, but it’s currently 60% off until January 26th, bringing the price down to $27.99. Good news: if you try the game for free through Nintendo Switch Online, your progress will carry over if you decide to buy it later.
Not the Best EA Game
While technically a limited-time trial – you won’t own the game permanently – Nintendo Switch Online members get full access to Madden NFL 26 and can experience everything it has to offer. However, most players likely won’t enjoy it. Madden NFL 26 isn’t a strong entry in the series, and unfortunately, it’s even less polished on the Nintendo Switch compared to versions on other consoles.
If you’re unfamiliar, new EA Madden NFL games come out every August, making this the most current version for the next eight months. This is a special deal because EA Madden NFL 26 isn’t currently available through PlayStation Plus, Xbox Game Pass, or even EA Play – and it won’t be added to EA Play for another month or two.
The first free game trial of 2026 for Nintendo Switch Online will only be available on the new Nintendo Switch 2 console. Current Nintendo Switch owners will need to be patient, as free trials are offered occasionally.
