The Marvel series “Thunderbolts” from “The New Avengers” is currently available for streaming on Disney+. This marks the second Marvel Studios film this year to debut on the platform, with “Captain America: Brave New World” having been released for streaming in late May (having premiered in theaters in February). Given this pattern, it seems likely that “Fantastic Four: First Steps” will arrive on Disney+ around Halloween.
Is Thunderbolts* A Good Movie?
As a dedicated Marvel fan, I found myself juggling the feeling of excitement and frustration while diving into ComicBook’s review of Thunderbolts*. Critic Spencer Perry pointed out that the movie seemed to demand a certain level of familiarity with other MCU projects to fully appreciate it: “Thunderbolts* feels rather uninspired, piecing together elements from various shows and narratives in a way that is coherent yet often zooms by at an alarming pace,” Perry wrote. “Much like most Marvel films, there’s engaging action sequences intertwined with humorous banter from the endearing cast (accompanied by some stunts choreographed within a cloud of smoke, making them difficult to truly see), but even that can only carry you so far in a post-Avengers: Endgame world.
After considering all aspects, it appears that public opinion regarding the Thunderbolts movie has become increasingly positive since other Marvel comic book films from 2025, such as Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts, have been released. This shift can also be observed in the growing anticipation for the film’s director, Jake Schreier, who is currently working on Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot project. Even if one wasn’t initially drawn to Thunderbolts based on its storyline, any fan of the X-Men would likely want to see how Schreier handles a group of superheroes, given his upcoming role in the reboot film.
In this film, the main cast of Thunderbolts is widely appreciated by fans for their entertaining banter and witty interactions. Standing out among them is Florence Pugh, reprising her role as Yelena Belova from Black Widow, bringing depth to her character after years of turmoil. Not far behind is David Harbour, who returns as Red Guardian, injecting the film with plenty of humor. Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, debuted in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, delivers a compelling performance that might have earned him the MCU’s “Most Improved Player” title. Julia Louis-Dreyfus gets to showcase more comedic talent as “Val,” while Lewis Pullman makes an impressive debut playing the enigmatic “Bob,” whose character arc brings significant twists and turns.
Is Marvel’s Thunderbolts* Okay For Kids to Watch?
Marvel Studios often keeps a PG-13 rating for its productions, making them generally acceptable for children aged 7 and above due to minimal violence and profanity. However, the upcoming movie Thunderbolts, despite also being rated PG-13, is not recommended for children or even pre-teens, as it contains content that may be unsuitable for younger audiences.

The problem with the movie “Thunderbolts” lies in its exploration of heavy themes related to mental health, particularly depression. Later parts of the film touch upon sensitive topics such as domestic and childhood abuse, which can be disturbing for adults and should not be viewed by children due to their mature content. In essence, “Thunderbolts” is not suitable for a younger Marvel movie audience.
