Timur Bekmambetov, who directed Amazon’s *War of the Worlds* with Ice Cube, has a new film that, like its predecessor (which wasn’t very well-received), is designed to be watched entirely on a computer screen. This movie feels like a series of questionable decisions. It looks strangely artificial due to heavy CGI, and Chris Pratt delivers a rather flat performance as Detective Raven – a typical, tough-guy role for him.
The trailer for the new movie *Mercy* is out, but it reveals pretty much the whole story, which doesn’t seem very complex. Chris Pratt plays Detective Raven, and he’s connected to a high-tech chair that acts as judge, jury, and executioner. Rebecca Ferguson’s face appears on the chair, telling him he has 90 minutes to prove he’s innocent or face the consequences (it’s unclear if those consequences happen *in* the chair). One viewer pointed out the trailer feels very similar to *Minority Report*, and the parallels are striking.
So What Can We Expect From Mercy?

The trailer shows Chris Pratt doing a lot of shouting, and Rebecca Ferguson sports a stylish turtleneck. However, the plot, as described on IMDB, is the most compelling part: a detective (Pratt) is on trial for his wife’s murder and has 90 minutes to convince the A.I. Judge (Ferguson) – a system he previously supported – of his innocence before she delivers her verdict. Like the previous film, it appears to prioritize visual flair over a deep story.
A video game adaptation would have been ideal, but instead we’re getting a reboot of *Minority Report* in 2026. The initial trailer hasn’t impressed everyone – one YouTube commenter said it made them *less* interested in seeing the film. However, the movie boasts a strong cast, including Annabelle Wallis and Kenneth Choi alongside Ferguson and Pratt. It’s currently scheduled to be released on January 23, 2026, after being delayed from its original August 15, 2025 release date.
