With 2025 wrapping up, it’s a good moment to look back at the year for anime and manga. Manga Plus, a popular platform by Shueisha, recently shared its yearly data, showcasing the most popular manga of the year. Each year, they compile these stats, and the most anticipated results are always for the top new series. Manga Plus ranks new manga based on how many views their first chapter receives within the first week of release.
This year, Manga Plus released 58 different manga titles. As expected, the most popular manga of 2025 is the sequel to Gege Akutami’s hit series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Akutami wrote the story, with illustrations by Yuji Iwasaki. The first chapter of the sequel quickly gained over 1.7 million views, significantly outpacing the next most popular titles, Otr of the Flame and Metaphor: ReFantazio, which each received just over 300,000 views. The success of Modulo confirms Jujutsu Kaisen‘s position as a leading franchise for a new generation of anime and manga fans.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Was the Clear Standout Among This Year’s New Manga Debuts

The recent sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen quickly became the most popular new manga, with its first chapter getting more reads than even One Piece and Chainsaw Man. This success is largely due to how beloved the original series is. However, a major reason for all the excitement around the sequel’s start is that many fans were disappointed with how the original Jujutsu Kaisen ended. The original’s conclusion is still widely debated, with many feeling it was too rushed, leaving fans wanting more from the story.
The new manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, immediately grabbed fans’ attention as a direct continuation of the original story, with everyone eager to find out what happens to their favorite characters. The introduction of the main characters – the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki, a pairing many fans wished for in the original series – further excited the already large fanbase. This enthusiastic response shows that fans see Modulo as a way to revisit the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, which is a great sign for a franchise that’s become a leading force in modern anime and manga. It’s no surprise, then, that the sequel is poised to be one of the most popular new manga of 2025.
