2026 Will Be a Disappointing Year For Demon Slayer Fans

2025 proved to be a landmark year for Demon Slayer with the release of the first film in the Infinity Castle trilogy. The movie shattered box office records, earning over 100 billion yen worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing anime film ever. This sets a high bar for the upcoming sequels. Infinity Castle is the series’ longest story arc and kicks off the final chapter, where the Demon Slayers face a massive battle against formidable demons, including the Upper Moons. Their mission is to locate Muzan Kibutsuji, who’s hidden within the castle and desperately trying to overcome the effects of a drug administered by Tamayo. But navigating the endless, demon-filled labyrinth to reach him won’t be easy.

The beginning of the series immediately showed how dangerous things had become with the loss of Shinobu Kocho inside the castle. Although Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Giyu each defeated powerful enemies, they’re now badly hurt and unable to continue fighting right away. The next part of the story promises to be even more challenging, as three more formidable foes – Kokushibo, Doma, and Nakime – remain. Unfortunately, fans waiting for the continuation will be disappointed to learn of a recent update.

Demon Slayer Doesn’t Have a New Project Scheduled for 2026

Although the original manga finished in 2020, the anime adaptation is taking time to reach its conclusion due to its high production quality. The creator, Koyoharu Gotouge, hasn’t created any new stories after the main storyline ended with Muzan’s defeat, which is understandable. Currently, fans are eagerly awaiting the anime films, but the first part of the final arc isn’t expected until 2027, with the concluding part arriving in 2029.

Ufotable hasn’t released any previews or teasers for the second part yet, but fans can likely expect an update around the middle of 2026. When Ufotable does share a first look, it will also announce when the new episodes or film will be released. This year marks the first time since the anime premiered in 2019 that no new episodes or a movie will be available, and aside from the Infinity Castle films, there are no other major projects planned for release.

Keep an eye on big anime events like Aniplex Online Fest and Jump Festa for news about the series. While updates have been slow this year, the first part is expected to start streaming on Crunchyroll after a delay caused by longer-than-usual theater showings. You can already watch all other seasons and the Mugen Train movie on Crunchyroll if you want to revisit the story.
