Lucasfilm has announced that 2026 will mark a significant turning point for Star Wars, even as they aim to revitalize the film series. The studio has faced challenges recently, with their Disney+ shows seeing less and less success. While next year’s release of The Mandalorian and Grogu is intended to bring Star Wars back to theaters, 2026 appears to be a time for concluding some existing storylines and starting fresh.
Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars Insider, the long-running official magazine which has been published since 1978, will cease publication in early 2026. Issue #237 will be the final issue produced by its current publisher, Titan.
Christopher Cooper, the editor of Star Wars Insider, announced that the magazine will be ending publication. In a statement, he shared that Insider has been a significant part of his Star Wars journey, both as a fan and professionally, for many years. He expressed his gratitude for the eight years he spent sharing the galaxy with readers, but noted that the publishing landscape has changed dramatically since the days of the Lucasfilm Fan Club magazine, and the shift towards digital media has led to this difficult decision.
Star Wars Insider Has A Fantastic Legacy

For decades, Star Wars Insider has been a beloved part of the Star Wars community, leaving behind an incredible history. It began as a simple newsletter for members of the Official Star Wars Fan Club and evolved into the magazine we know today in 1994. Through major changes in the Star Wars universe – from the expansion of stories beyond the films, to the release of the prequels, and even Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm – Insider remained a constant source of news, official stories, and fascinating interviews. Its cancellation will be deeply felt by many fans, as it truly became a home for all things Star Wars.
Lucasfilm’s recent announcement suggests Insider magazine might not be gone for good. They described this as the end of its “current run,” and one representative called it the end of a “chapter.” This implies Insider could return in a new format, potentially coinciding with Lucasfilm’s plans to revitalize the Star Wars franchise with The Mandalorian and Grogu.
The cancellation of Star Wars Insider feels like a worrying sign. The trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu didn’t generate much excitement – after a month, it has fewer than 10 million views on YouTube, while the Percy Jackson season 2 trailer surpassed that number in just five days. Overall, fan engagement with Star Wars seems to be declining, and the end of Insider reflects this. Hopefully, Lucasfilm’s future plans will reignite interest.
