The upcoming Disney+ series, Maul: Shadow Lord, a sequel to Clone Wars set in 2026, is gaining momentum with a new poster revealing its central Jedi character, Devon Izara. The series will feature Maul, a powerful Force user and former Sith Lord, driven by a deep hatred of Emperor Palpatine and the Galactic Empire. He’s establishing a base on the planet Janix, aiming to reclaim his criminal empire and forging new relationships – both friendly and hostile – including with a Twi’lek Jedi Padawan named Devon Izara.
Just before the premiere of Maul: Shadow Lord on Disney+ on April 6th, Star Wars revealed a new poster featuring Devon Izara, a key Jedi character. The poster shows off her design and emphasizes how important she is to the story.

The description highlights Devon Izara as a Jedi unlike any other. Promotional materials suggest that Darth Maul might see her as a promising new apprentice, hoping she’ll join him in his fight against the Empire. The artwork features Devon with a blue lightsaber and a special outfit built for escaping Imperial forces.
People are drawing comparisons between Devon Izara and Darth Talon, suggesting Izara is the Disney era’s take on the character. This is largely due to their shared traits: both are Twi’leks with reddish skin, and Talon was previously an apprentice to Darth Maul in the older, non-canon ‘Star Wars Legends’ stories.

After the terrible events of Order 66, Devon is fleeing the Empire, making her an easy target for Maul. He could persuade her to fight alongside him, as they both share a common enemy: the Galactic Empire.
The new series, Maul: Shadow Lord, will reveal what happened to Maul after his escape from Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex in the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It bridges the gap in his story and fills in missing details of his life during that time.
In addition to facing Devon, Maul will battle Brander Lawson, who serves a similar role to Commissioner Gordon in the Star Wars universe. He’ll also be aided by a dedicated companion, the Mandalorian warrior Rook Kast.
Maul: Shadow Lord is set to have a two-episode premiere on Disney+ on April 6.
Why Devon’s Main Jedi Role In Maul: Shadow Lord Is Compelling & Dangerous

Considering the official description of Devon Izara as anything but a typical Jedi, it’s likely she’s struggling with inner conflict and facing a future drastically different from what she imagined when she began her Jedi training.
Maul exploits Devon’s isolated and cautious existence, recognizing her potential as a strong Force user who could damage the Empire. Devon herself is torn between her Jedi beliefs and the need to survive, leading her to consider an alliance with the dangerous Maul. She represents an internal conflict between doing what’s right and doing what’s necessary.
As a fan, I’m really excited to see Maul offering Devon a chance to actually fight the Empire, instead of just staying in the shadows. It’s a huge opportunity for her, but honestly, I’m a little worried. Her Jedi training is so precise and perfect, and this could really push her boundaries – maybe even too far, and towards the Dark Side. It’s a really interesting dilemma!
If Devon completely falls under Maul’s control and turns to the dark side, she could become a very powerful Sith Lord. This would be ironic, and potentially a huge error for Maul, considering he’s moved away from the Sith and its practices himself.
