Fans of unusual anime have something to look forward to this week with the return of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steelball Run on Netflix. But that’s not the only strange series coming soon! Tank Chair, a relatively unknown anime, is generating buzz with its unique concept and newly released animation. It promises to be an incredibly violent and potentially the most discussed anime of the year. Bandai Namco and Polygon Pictures are bringing this series to life, and you can find more details below.
Originally a manga created by Manabu Yashiro in 2022 and still ongoing through Kodansha, Tank Chair centers around a protagonist who resembles a blend of Kamen Rider and Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th – and is just as dangerous. The story follows Nagi, who becomes disabled while saving his sister, Shizuka, from a gunshot. Nagi falls into a coma, only waking to battle powerful enemies, which leads Shizuka to seek out even stronger opponents. Driven by a desire to heal her brother, Tank Chair depicts the siblings’ journey through brutal and violent encounters. The anime adaptation is scheduled to premiere this fall, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.
The Tank Chair is Rolling in
Manabu Yashiro, the creator of Tank Chair, shared his excitement about the upcoming anime adaptation. He says Tank Chair is full of intricate details, strange creatures, busy cityscapes, and over-the-top action – everything he loves! He always doubted it could be animated due to its complexity, but the team at Polygon Pictures, led by directors Tady and Ando, have amazingly brought his vision to life with incredible skill and dedication. Yashiro is thrilled with how the characters – Nagi, Shizuka, Radio, Naozumi, Touko, Uzu, and Sensei – have been realized, calling them ‘cute and cool.’ He encourages everyone to look forward to the anime and the chaos it will bring!
The animation for Yashiro’s story will be handled by Polygon Pictures, a well-established studio in the anime industry. They’ve previously worked on popular projects like Ultraman, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Idolmaster, Big Hero 6, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Interestingly, Polygon Pictures also has experience with video games, including titles like Street Fighter V, Pokemon Sword and Shield, and Lollipop Chainsaw. As of now, the number of episodes in the first season of Tank Chair hasn’t been confirmed, but given the amount of source material from the manga, fans can anticipate a lot of action.
