I’m so excited to hear that Marvel is bringing Jon Bernthal back as The Punisher! It’s amazing how they’re rebuilding the old Netflix crew within the MCU on Disney+. Seeing Charlie Cox as Daredevil again was fantastic, and now it looks like we’ll get to see Frank Castle back in action too. It started with the Daredevil: Born Again series, and now, they’re planning a special presentation for The Punisher in 2026 – I can’t wait!
A video from the set of the upcoming Punisher special presentation shows actor Jason M. Moore filming scenes with Jon Bernthal. This confirms Moore will return as Curtis Hoyle when the show premieres on Disney+ in 2026.
Josh Hoyle was a key character in both seasons of Netflix’s The Punisher, playing a former Navy medic who fought alongside Frank Castle. After losing a leg during his time in the military, Hoyle now leads a support group in New York City for veterans dealing with PTSD and the challenges of life after service.
I’ve always seen him as Frank Castle’s support, really. He’s the one who seems to remind Frank what’s right, even if he doesn’t approve of the violent things Frank does. He helps Frank from the shadows, offering assistance when he can. But don’t get me wrong, he’s no pushover! Even with his disability, he showed in The Punisher that he can definitely fight, though he’s a bit more careful about it than Frank is.

Jon Bernthal is returning as the Punisher in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day series, and he’s expected to team up with a new sidekick – a Black female character. Fans are already guessing who she might be, with some believing she could be a reimagined version of Rachel Cole-Alves.
The upcoming Punisher reboot special is being co-written by actor Jon Bernthal, who plays Frank Castle, and Reinaldo Marcus Green, the director of King Richard. The story will focus on a conflict between the Punisher and Ma Gnucci, a crime boss with a disability who is seeking revenge for the deaths of her sons – a storyline taken from the Marvel Comics.
Is The Punisher’s Special a Full-On Netflix Reunion?

While a full reboot like the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again isn’t currently planned for The Punisher, Jessica Jones is reportedly being considered for that treatment. However, fans of The Punisher will still get a glimpse back into that universe with a roughly hour-long special presentation on Disney+.
So far, only a few actors are confirmed for the cast. Jon Bernthal is returning as Frank Castle, and Jason R. Moore will reprise his role as Curtis Hoyle from the Netflix series. Roe Rancell will play the character Dennis, and a new actress will be joining the cast as Ma Gnucci.
It’s uncertain if any other characters from The Punisher will appear on Disney+, as the show’s short format might limit opportunities. However, if this special presentation does well, there’s a chance the series could be brought back, similar to the Born Again approach, or even continued as a movie.
It’s unlikely Micro, the hacker known from The Punisher and played by Ebon Mass-Bachrach, will appear on Disney+. Mass-Bachrach is currently filming The Fantastic Four as Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, and is committed to that role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
