The Straw Hat Pirates are fan favorites in One Piece, playing a vital role in Luffy’s adventures. Starting with just five members, the crew set sail for the Grand Line and grew over time. They each pursue their own goals, but are fiercely loyal to Luffy, always supporting him when he needs it most. Though relatively small in number, every member has a special skill and excels at what they do. While some, like Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji, possess incredible power, everyone compensates for each other’s weaknesses, especially when things get tough. This strong teamwork and unwavering trust in one another make them incredibly resilient, allowing them to overcome any obstacle they set their minds to.
One Piece is a captivating story known for its emotional depth and well-developed characters, particularly the bonds within its crew, like those shared with the doctor, Tony Tony Chopper. Chopper first appeared during the Drum Island Arc, part of the Alabasta Saga, and officially joined the crew in episode 91, which aired in Japan on December 9th, 2025. To celebrate the 24th anniversary of this fan-favorite moment, Toei Animation’s official X account shared a touching clip of Chopper, the blue-nosed reindeer, joyfully becoming a crew member.
Chopper Is Still One of The Most Beloved Characters in One Piece

Chopper’s story is one of the saddest in One Piece, especially as revealed during the Drum Island Arc. Being a reindeer with a blue nose made him different from the start, but things got much worse when he ate the Human-Human Fruit. This caused his family to reject him, and he faced constant attacks because he didn’t fit in with either reindeer or humans. Even after finding a kind father figure in Dr. Hiriluk, Chopper’s troubles continued when he learned Hiriluk was gravely ill.
Chopper trained diligently with Dr. Kureha, striving to become a doctor capable of healing any disease. Witnessing Luffy’s unwavering dedication to his friends during the Drum Island arc deeply impacted him. Motivated by the Straw Hat crew, Chopper found the strength to pursue his own ambitions and embark on a life at sea. His joining of the crew and tearful goodbye to Drum Island are still considered some of the most touching scenes in the series. Throughout his adventures, Chopper has faced numerous challenges, maturing into a dependable and skilled pirate who has saved countless lives.
