25 Marlboro Miles Rewards Smokers Could Earn in the ’90s

Marlboro Miles offered smokers a way to earn rewards simply by buying cigarettes.

This explains how the Marlboro Miles program worked and gives examples of some of the valuable rewards you could redeem.

How Marlboro Miles Worked

It’s hard to believe you could, at one time, get rewarded for smoking.

Despite widespread anti-smoking ads on television in the 1990s, cigarette companies were still offering rewards like clothes, camping gear, and household items to customers who purchased their products.

During the 1990s and early 2000s, Marlboro ran a popular rewards program called Marlboro Miles. Every pack or carton of Marlboro cigarettes included a certain number of miles printed on it.

Smokers could tear the miles from the box and save them up for various rewards.

Growing up, it felt like smoking and money were strangely connected. The more cigarettes you went through, the more you seemed to have. Or, if you didn’t smoke yourself, maybe a relative worked at a convenience store and could ‘acquire’ a few packs – a little perk of the job, if you will. I’ll always be grateful to my grandma, who somehow managed to get me a full Marlboro tracksuit back in the day!

Around the same time, another brand offered a rewards program called Camel Cash. However, Marlboro really took the lead with its extensive rewards program.

Vintage Marlboro Miles Rewards

Marlboro used to publish a catalog every year or so featuring rewards customers could get by redeeming their mileage points. These rewards ranged from small items like playing cards to larger prizes such as complete luggage sets.

Serious collectors could win prizes as big as a pool table! Here’s a peek at some of the most exciting rewards you can get with Marlboro Miles.
