With so many anime series coming out every year, many great shows get overlooked or fade into obscurity. Alien Nine is one of those hidden gems – a 2001 OVA series that still doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.
Yuri Otani, a sixth-grader, was chosen by her class to be part of the “Alien Party” at Elementary School 9, along with her friends Kumi Kawamura and Kasumi Tomine. Their job is to capture any aliens that might come to school, but not to harm them. They get help from their teacher, Ms. Megumi Hisakawa, and small aliens called “Borg” that attach to their heads and keep them safe.
Yuri really dislikes attending the Alien Party because she’s terrified of aliens. When she sees them, she either faints or becomes completely paralyzed, preventing her from doing her job. This means Kumi, Kasumi, and Yuri’s Borg have to cover for her. Ms. Hisakawa explains that the girls will be more successful if they can better connect with their Borgs. However, there might be a hidden purpose behind the Alien Party and the connection between the girls and their Borgs.
