Twenty-eight years after the original film grossed a remarkable $150 million globally at the box office, we eagerly anticipate its sequel, which was filmed simultaneously. A sneak peek into this continuation is provided by the first trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta, offers a fresh perspective on the universe established by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in 28 Days Later. This film flips the original story on its head. Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) enters into an unexpected relationship with significant repercussions that might alter their known world, while Spike’s (Alfie Williams) meeting with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) transforms into a terrifying ordeal from which he cannot free himself. The bone-chilling world of The Bone Temple presents a new horror: the inhumanity of the survivors can be just as strange and frightening as the infected.
The upcoming sequel, as per Jack O’Connell and director Nia DaCosta, will delve deeper into the destructive impact of human wickedness, and the intricate dynamics between the film’s remaining humans and those infected by the central rage virus from the franchise. As O’Connell explained, “This movie is like a slightly unhinged and enigmatic relative to ’28 Days Later’, you might find somewhat intriguing, despite its peculiar and debatable aspects.” He further added that the infected characters in our film are not merely villains. DaCosta hinted, “The tone of the movie is challenging to encapsulate, so I won’t even try. However, it retains the same eccentric, unpredictable, and captivating vibe as before.
If the movie turns out to be a hit, Danny Boyle might come back to direct the concluding chapter of this specific trilogy.
