Holiday episodes are a staple of sitcoms. With so many episodes each season, a holiday provides a natural setting for at least one story. Friends is particularly well-known for its Thanksgiving episodes, but it also delivers memorable Christmas stories. While these episodes often show the friends enjoying a cheerful, lighthearted holiday with funny gift exchanges, there are also moments of drama. For example, in Season 9, Monica mistakenly believes Chandler is being unfaithful while away on a work trip and travels to confront him.
Although Boy Meets World is a show about typical high school students, its holiday episodes aren’t always lighthearted. The show consistently aims to teach valuable lessons, and it doesn’t shy away from that even during the holidays. In fact, Season 4 of Boy Meets World features a surprisingly dark Christmas episode, and it uses two famous comedians to deliver a tough message.
“Easy Street” Sends Shawn and Cory Down a Dark Road

The holidays can be tough for some, as getting gifts isn’t always easy. In the “Easy Street” episode, Shawn and Cory decide to earn their own money during their school break. Shawn finds work at the docks, but it’s much harder than he expected. Meanwhile, Cory lands a great job at a restaurant owned by Mr. Fontaine and Mr. Martini (played by Buddy Hackett and Soupy Sales). Surprisingly, all Cory has to do is get coffee and run errands for his bosses, and he makes a lot of money doing it!
When Shawn learns about the deal, he visits the restaurant to investigate. Having a better understanding of the streets than his friend, he quickly realizes that Fontaine and Martini are connected to the mob. It’s hard to convince Cory that he’s gotten involved in something dangerous, but he backs out as soon as he understands what’s happening. Shawn, however, sees a chance to benefit and accepts Fontaine and Martini’s offer to replace Cory. This decision turns out to be a mistake, leading Boy Meets World down a very dark path.
Shawn Nearly Makes the Biggest Mistake of His Life in Boy Meets World Season 4

Hackett and Sales bring their playful, energetic personalities to every episode of Boy Meets World. Meanwhile, Martini and Fontaine praise Shawn’s strong work ethic so much that he starts skipping school to earn extra money. Cory is upset, but Shawn is determined to get a great gift for his best friend. They reconcile when Shawn presents Cory with an engraved watch, and they plan to celebrate further at the Christmas Eve party. However, in a classic sitcom twist, Shawn can’t make it – he has one final task to complete for some unreliable bosses.
Shawn is asked by Fontaine and Martini to deliver a suspicious package to a car waiting on the road. Luckily, his friend Cory finds him and warns him that the package probably contains drugs. Shawn realizes he’s been tricked and decides to go home with Cory instead of completing the delivery. Fontaine and Martini don’t reappear, suggesting they’ve abandoned their plan, but their potential return casts a shadow over the rest of the show. It definitely ruins the cheerful holiday atmosphere!
Boy Meets World is streaming on Disney+.
