2K Sports has officially announced that they are developing a new college basketball game experience, with over one hundred American college teams included. The game is set to launch in 2027, and the company hinted at some exciting announcements for early 2026 as well.
Indeed, we confirmed it on social media! We’re developing an exciting college basketball experience, showcasing over 100 teams from various universities nationwide-from renowned powerhouses to inspiring underdogs. By fostering competition at every level, our approach ensures a high-quality experience for partner schools, student athletes, and players alike.
Exciting news! You can expect to see your preferred colleges appearing in the game soon. We have some major plans for the years ahead, starting from 2027, and we even have a few exciting surprises lined up early in 2026.
2K’s recent announcement aligns with earlier speculations suggesting that the company was negotiating with various universities such as Michigan State, Houston, and UCLA regarding a possible comeback of the College Hoops series. Previous reports also suggested that 2K might initially explore college basketball content within its primary NBA 2K games before fully launching a new College Hoops game.
During that period, the report suggested that the company might develop an independent college basketball game if there was significant fan interest in the sport, demonstrated by expansions and downloadable content for the NBA 2K series, which included some college athletes. In essence, it was mentioned that 2K Sports would evaluate the potential of a standalone college basketball game based on certain key performance indicators related to their upcoming release, 2K28.
Currently, 2K is developing content related to college basketball for future releases. Simultaneously, they are preparing to unveil their latest mainline basketball game – NBA 2K26. This game will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and the newly announced Switch 2, all of which will receive the release today.
As we approach the game’s latest update, the company has been disclosing exciting details about several new features. The most recent Courtside Report zeroed in on enhancements for The City. Among these improvements are increased frame rates and higher visual quality. Furthermore, The City will also be enriched with a variety of additional features, such as the return of the Park, which first appeared in NBA 2K14.
The basketball games in the park will feature changing seasons and fresh environments every six weeks. Alongside these new settings, players can anticipate playing in reworked versions of previous versions of the park, including four returning ones from NBA 2K16’s MyPARK. To start off, at launch, the park will be based on an urban setting.
Additionally, you might want to explore the earlier edition of our Courtside Report. It delved into enhancements made to gameplay, controls, and AI in NBA 2K26.
We’re going back to school.
