Riot Games recently surprised players of their fighting game, 2XKO, with an update about future characters. When 2XKO launches in early 2026, Riot shared a plan to add five new fighters throughout the year, giving players an idea of what to expect. Now, Riot has announced that this plan will be even bigger than originally stated, with more content on the way.
I was so excited to see Riot’s latest announcement! They’re adding six new fighters to 2XKO over the next year, and it’s already started! We got Caitlyn back in January, and Akali just dropped this week. They’ve confirmed Senna is coming too, which is awesome. But the best part? Three more fighters are still a secret! I can’t wait to find out who they are – hopefully we’ll hear more details soon!
Riot announced they’re releasing one more champion this year, bringing the total of new champions to six. They’re also planning to add a new feature called ‘Fuse’ and an in-game tool to help players find duo partners next month. They expressed gratitude for the community’s support.
This Is a Very Surprising Move Given Recent Moves at Riot
It’s surprising to see Riot Games increasing its support for 2XKO this year, considering past decisions. Just a few weeks after the game launched in February, Riot announced layoffs within the 2XKO development team, which suggested the game wasn’t performing as well as hoped. Therefore, the announcement of six new characters planned for 2026 – instead of the originally planned five – with a smaller development team is unexpected.
Given that 2XKO seems poised to become a popular fighting game, Riot Games probably understands the importance of acting fast. Adding more content now is a clever strategy that could attract new players to the free-to-play game.
