The upcoming *Mortal Kombat 2* movie will introduce several popular characters to the new film series, with Karl Urban taking on the role of Johnny Cage. This will be the fourth time the famous fighting game has been adapted for live-action, and while fans have already seen characters like Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, and Scorpion on the big screen, many others haven’t. We’re taking a look at three particularly impressive fighters who deserve their moment in the films.
3. Erron Black
Mortal Kombat has plenty of fighters with magical or elemental powers, but some characters prefer classic fighting styles, like Johnny Cage. Erron Black is one of these fighters, and he’s as cool as he sounds – an immortal gunslinger who relies on skill and weaponry.
Erron Black first appeared in *Mortal Kombat X*. Thanks to a deal with Shang Tsung, he’s lived for over 150 years and continues to do so. Even with his immortality, Black still uses his signature weapons – a pair of revolvers, rifles, sand grenades, caltrops, and a Tarkatan blade – and is highly skilled with each one.
Imagining a fight between Erron Black and any of the movie’s heroes is easy, particularly if his opponent has powers like Sub-Zero or Sonya Blade. Hopefully, any battle includes his signature move, the ‘Money Shot’ – flipping a coin and bouncing a bullet off it to hit his enemy – because it’s incredibly cool.
2. Fujin
Most people immediately think of Raiden, the God of Thunder, when they hear the name *Mortal Kombat*. He’s a central figure in the series, both because of his strength and his crucial role in the game’s story and lore. While he’s a well-known hero, it’s time his brother, Fujin, also got some recognition and a bigger role in the franchise.
Fujin first appeared in *Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero*, but players couldn’t control him until *Mortal Kombat 4*. He really came into his own in *Mortal Kombat 11*, where, as the Wind God, he proved to be a powerful fighter. With a diverse range of abilities, Fujin could deliver some incredible action sequences in a movie.
Fujin is a compelling character for more than just his powers. His complex history with Raiden – specifically, the reasons they stopped speaking and even fought – offers a lot of potential for interesting character growth and dramatic storylines. He deliberately chose to live among humans instead of staying at the Sky Temple, which caused a major rift with his brother, Raiden. This decision shaped Fujin’s perspective on humanity, making it very different from Raiden’s, and it would be fascinating to see that contrast explored on screen, along with how the rest of the team reacts to it.
1. Skarlet
You might be asking how anyone could be more powerful than iconic characters like the immortal gunslinger and the Wind God – it’s a difficult feat! But if you’re a blood mage, it’s possible. Skarlet, a master of blood magic in *Mortal Kombat*, is one of the deadliest characters around, and anyone who’s seen her fight knows just how dangerous she is.
Skarlet is a very dangerous fighter, both at close range and from a distance, and her unique abilities would be fantastic to see in a movie. While bringing her to life would likely require extensive computer-generated imagery, similar effects worked incredibly well for Sub-Zero, and the same could be achieved for Skarlet, resulting in some truly impressive fight scenes.
Picture this: in the next game, Skarlet fights Kitana and launches a blood projectile, then uses a move called Bloodport to transform into a blood form and teleport behind Kitana. She follows up with Blood Spatter, creating a circular blood explosion that knocks Kitana down. Since Kitana is now further away, Skarlet uses Blood Tentacle, stepping forward and summoning a tentacle of blood to strike Kitana from a distance. Pretty cool, huh? It would look fantastic in the game!
Skarlet has ties to both Shao Kahn and Erron Black – a brief romance with the latter, but a much deeper relationship with Kahn. He essentially raised her and taught her blood magic, becoming a father figure. With Kahn appearing in the upcoming movie, introducing Skarlet to the film series would be a natural fit.
Mortal Kombat 2 will land in theaters on May 15, 2026.
